In this clip on beginner’s billiards, I’d like to show you how to follow through on your stroke. For those of you who play golf, you’ve always heard the term, keep your head down and follow through. Like any sport, it’s just as important in the game of pool. I put a little marker here on the table and I put the cue ball on that marker so you can see where the tip ends up as I follow through on the shot. You are to accelerate through the shot. I’ve setup on my set position, I take my practice strokes, I pause and follow right through. I keep my head down.
Now, take a look—if you’ve noticed, I’ve used our open bridge. If you get back to our segment on bridges, I’ve used an open bridge and there’s a reason for that. That would give me instant feedback on my stroke. If I am pulling in the direction, I take my practice strokes but I use my grip hand. I’ve somehow gone off of my stroke, I can see what happens. I can see that my tip goes to the right, I pull my hand in towards. If the tip goes to the left, I’m taking my hand and moved it out. If the tip goes up, let’s take a look what happens if I drop my arm and I grip my hand too tight. If I go on to my bridge and I grip my hand too tight, I remove it, I’ll see this happen. That will give me all the instant feedback. What I should be able to do is walk up to the cue ball, get in my set position, practice strokes, pause, freeze straight. My cue stick ends up in a straight line that I know it ends up towards the table that I’ve completed my stroke, and that’s how you get a good stroke in a game of pool.
