Hi! I'd like to give you a short three minute tip on how you can become faster. This tip is for coaches and swimmers.
We are going to start from the bottom-up. Kicking is extremely important and it's one propulsive component to swimming that everybody can getting better at. When you see coaches on the side of the pool at practice or at swimming ranting and yelling about kicking is very important. But if you're going to be coaches, if you are going to be yelling about this, and the person you are yelling at has a terrible kick, you are making him get slower, because a poor kick acts as an anchor. A good kick is propulsive and the opposite is true when you have a poor kick.
Now ankle flexibility is of course, this is a bad position, and then you'll be just surprised how many kids can't point their toe very well.
Ankle flexibility can be improved every practice when a swimmer at every opportunity can put his ankle in a position where it's stretched. So if you take your after a kick set or after a main set you have an opportunity, have your swimmers take their left ankle, bring their heel up to their rear end and try to pull it straight.
The position is important. You don't want him to pull sideways. Either way he wants to go straight up so the tendon that goes straight up the ankle, straight up the ankle, is the one that's being stretched and improved upon.
I want you do this eight seconds with your right, eight seconds with your left and you are going to get better. Do at every opportunity. During your practice tell your swimmers when they are at home watching TV, work on ankle flexibility. It's an easy thing to do for everybody, from the toddler all the way to an Olympic gold medalist and world record holder to get better. Something that you improve on.
Remember right foot eight seconds, left foot -- do about three sets and it will get better if you work on it religiously. Good luck to you. Thank you very much. We'll see you later. Bye!
