Zelana Montminy: Whether your hair is damaged from chemicals, heat styling or just plain dry; celebrity stylist Ken Paves is here to share his tips on how you can improve the quality of your hair.
Ken Paves: So, reversing hair damage is the easy to integrate into your current routine. So, you want to find a shampoo that is SLS free that’s Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free. That’s the main ingredient in dish detergent that strips your hair and makes it even more damaged.
Zelana Montminy: There’s also some technique involved in how you wash your hair. You want to lather at the roots because that’s where the hair produces the most oil and then same thing for the conditioner but flip it. You want to get the conditioner in the ends and not so much on the roots.
Ken Paves: Absolutely. And I also recommend not shampooing your hair every single day. That’s going to eliminate a lot of damage.
Zelana Montminy: Often times when you color your hair, it can really dry out. The deep conditioning treatment can really soothe it.
Ken Paves: With coloring damaged hair, it’s all about hydration. So, I’ve actually created a conditioning balm called Get Deep. It actually has CoQ10 clusters in it, the main ingredient in skin care. It hydrates and soothes the hair and helps seal the cuticle and hold in your color.
Zelana Montminy: Another fun trick is when you’re in the shower, put a shower cap on when you have a deep conditioning treatment in there. The steam from the shower will actually help infuse that hair even more with the deep conditioner.

Ken Paves: Now that you’ve got your hair shampooed and conditioned it’s really important to keep at your regular trims, keep those ends clean. Keep your hair healthy and you’re guaranteed to look great. I recommend, you know, presenting with really long hair maybe three to four times a year; somebody with even shorter hair, six to eight times a year. That’s really all you need.
Zelana Montminy: A lot of women like media with frizz whether it’s their natural texture, whether damaged. What are some of your tips in dealing with frizz?
Ken Paves: The greatest anti-frizz treatment is to find a shine serum. I’ve created a shine serum with a really light molecular weight. It’s called Self Help Shining Soul. That’s the best way. After a fresh shampoo and wet hair, apply a shine serum. That’s going to keep all the moisture and hugely minimize the frizz.
Zelana Montminy: Now, you know the secrets to shiny, healthy hair. Thanks for watching! See you next time!
