Lesson #1: How much muscle can you really build?
One of the really important question of today and that question is “How much muscle can you realistically build within the span of a month?”
I think a lot of skinny guys are hard gained and are under the impression they can build far more muscle than what is humanly possible. Mainly because of the body building and supplement ads that tell you, you can build 30 pounds in a month. Your body can actually only manufacture naturally, I am talking without drugs. This is a natural body building we are talking about today, one or two pounds of dry muscle per month. And it does not sound like much. But if you consider one or two pounds of dry muscle on a monthly basis through the course of the next year, you can have 12-24 freaking pounds of muscle on your body.
So, this kind of shows you the importance of consistency. And remember, every time you add one to two pounds of dry muscle—when I say dry muscle, I am talking rock, hard, solid muscle. You are going to increase storage space for glycogen and for water. So, what happens is all of a sudden gaining around five to six pounds of lean muscle mass per month. And that is actually exactly what you want. You should be gaining at least five to six pounds of lean muscle months each month.
So for yourself at home, you are probably thinking, “I need to set some goals. I need to figure out how much weight can I gain.” If you are going just for weight gain, you could probably gain 10-15 pounds a month to realize you are going to gain a lot of fat. I am guessing you want to focus on building lean muscle mass, so you should aim to build five to six pounds of lean muscle mass each month.
So there you have it. Now you know how much muscle is realistic to gain on a monthly basis. Aim for one or two pounds of dry muscle, which should work out to five to six pounds of lean muscle mass.
