Bridget Snapp: After Misty May-Treanor and Keri Walsh bought at the Olympics this year and brought home their second gold medal, across around the world when they are following their foot steps, today on Clubhouse Gas we are going to try you high you can get them started.
I am here with Mary Buczek, she was a former coach of a UGA lady dogs volleyball team and then current coach and Lovett lines, she was the double A’s stake finalist for the past two years. Thanks for being with us.
Mary Buczek: Thanks for coming.
Bridget Snapp: Buczek how did you get you’re start in volleyball?
Mary Buczek: I played in college, and I think it was my first year in college, I work camp and decided, hey I really like the teaching thing and coaching and from there I know who’s going to be college coach, and work for the right people and played for the right people and just work my way to the ranks.
Bridget Snapp: Talk me about the actual team player, how important it is to work as a team in volleyball?
Mary Buczek: As I have always said volleyball is the alternate teams sport, you have got to really on your team mates, you again I said as well that’s about I can triple down the court and shoot the basket ball on my own, and volley ball somebody else has to touch the ball. So, really has the teams sport and then you have 3 contacts, is somebody is going to contact at the first time second time and third time.
Bridget Snapp: So as a coach how do you help the girls, deal with challenges that come up may be with academics may with conflicts other sports?
Mary Buczek: Well, that’s a great thing about any sport, but what I tell them when they walk in the -- you know in gym, that should chance to leave the extra. Do the thing you love, be active, and get out here and play volley ball, take your frustrations out on the volleyball, you know, you get the smacked hard and that will really does help. This is the chance just to do with their love and forget about all those others stressness.
Bridget Snapp: So, what are the skills you look for, when you are ceasing your teams?
Mary Buczek: Of course high, we can teach high, and you have to be pretty tall than others you know, seven four and quarter whatever the actual height is, so you know being taller is going to manage, speed is always going to manage like it is and every sport, your attitude is really important in your work ethic, and not goes across the board really for any sport.
Bridget Snapp: So they can need their kneepads, they cannot even other kind of a coachman for this sport?
Mary Buczek: You defiantly need tennis shoes, court shoes. Preferably not running shoes the all you need a knee pads, and that’s is going to play volleyball its cheap, you don’t have to have a all these equipment and you know the school has the none so there is not of lot most schools have gyms, so we got to go.
Bridget Snapp: Alright, with most schools might not have the outdoor volley ball court, and of course you know with the Misty May and Keri Walsh do wanted at the Olympic this all girls might wanted be looking into some beach volleyball, what are the main differences between indoor and beach.
Mary Buczek: There are quite a few differences, but one most people know, the Keri Walsh played a stand for Misty May at long beach they were both indoor players, so learning a basic skills and in door well only have to beach game know. Beaches difficult in that there is only 2 players there’s no substitutions, can have the offer bad day and the sand is very difficult to move in and to jump. By so you know you got to really work on your speed and agility and you’re jump to play with two players but you find at the better ball control players in the indoor game become very good beach players because that takes lots of control of there in the sand.
Bridget Snapp: As exactly what Misty May we were lucky enough to interview her maid that if you want to intensely do beach, you want to get your skills down indoor and work you away in that way.
Mary Buczek: Absolutely, it is the place I mean you could go on the expect and you can touch and play out in the beach but you know most of us wont have access, Misty may many had access to the other everyday. Most of us tonight say the indoor game is the way to go.
Bridget Snapp: Sounds good. What for this little girls are there, who do want to be the next Misty May well it be your best adviser I will be watching and view about 7 years old, what’s your advice to get them up to this level,
Mary Buczek: Absolutely find a volley ball, find a volley ball go get a volley ball, grad it and you can play against the wall, you don’t even need a partner, and then find juniors YMCA, difference places like directly with club teams, specially for that young because most time you cant play on a school team yet but there is lots of leads and every time just look that up in your area.
Bridget Snapp: Okay we’ll doing, we thank you so much of being with us today.
Mary Buczek: Okay.
Bridget Snapp: Alright and that will do for its, see you next time, in other greater edition of Clubhouse Gas.
