Rich Brooks: Hi, I am Rich Brooks of Flyte New Media. We are a Web Design and Internet Marketing Company, located here at Portland, Maine. Over the past two weeks talking with clients at networking events, and even drinking beers with friends, the topic of twitters come up, mainly, because I brought it up myself, and after the eye rolling, people who often ask me, what exactly is twitter? And twitter is different things to different people, but if you are a small business, or an entrepreneur, twitter is a great online networking tool that you should definitely be taking advantage of, and what it is, is you have a 140 characters, often called the twit. To answer the question, what are you doing now?
What are you thinking now? How are you feeling now? Or maybe use those 140 characters to respond to somebody else's twit. Over time as you are twitting, people will start to find you and follow you. They will find you interesting, and when they follow you, your twits appear on their pages and by the same token, you are going to find people on twitter, and you are going think that they are interesting, and you are going to follow them, and when you follow them, their twits will appear in your twitter page, and through this, you can create and strengthen relationships online.
I have even started to get some business with twitter, and once I say that, suddenly everybody's eyes are laid off, and they are like, how do I get started om this? So that's the point to todays video, and to get started it's about as easy as finding porn on the Internet, but I am still going to take you through the steps, on how to sign up for a twitter account, and how to set up your account and get ready top start twitting. So let's take a look, the first thing you want to do is, you want to go to a twitter.com. When you get to the page, you'll click on, Get Started Join! You'll be able to create your own twitter account, and then create a password, and then put in your email address.
Then you are going to have to type out the words that you see, and I think this is right, let me try again, 4 OS maybe, got it right. The next thing twitter wants you to do, is to find out if your friends are on twitter, or invite them to twitter. I would actually say, hold off on this step. Instead, what you want to do, is you want to skip ahead. You can immediately start typing in what you are doing right then, but I am going to suggest, you come over here to settings. Click on settings, and you are going to fill out your bio. First of all, you may have a URL you want to point people to, maybe it's a website, maybe it's your blog, maybe it's your MySpace page, whatever it is. Then you have your one line, bio. I am President of Flyte. You can be more creative than that. Location, put in where you are.
Now you can choose to protect your updates, but from a networking standpoint that's probably not the best idea. Go ahead and save. Once you have created your bio, probably the next thing you want to do is, you want to upload a photo. So you click on picture, I have one here, here is it, twitter photo. Choose that photo, that's going to -- I am going to save that. It's going to upload and replace the picture. That's a nice picture, damn straight it's a nice picture, alright. And you can also choose a different design, background design or even upload your own.
If you want to upload your own, you would just choose one that you have, and go ahead and save those changes. And now I have my custom background. The next step will be to follow some friends, but that's going to be it for today's video. I appreciate your time, and if you want to follow me on twitter, my handle is TheRichBrooks, all one word, twitter.com/therichbrooks. Hope to see you twit soon. Take care.
