Thank you for logging on welcome to this week’s tip segment here at growingwisdom.com, a couple of tips for you as we get into the middle of July heading towards the end of the month, can you believe it? A couple of things; one is watch our pruning video this week. We have got a video that we are putting together on pruning and it is important to really know which shrubs and trees you should be pruning this time of the year, so that is tip number one. The other thing is a lot of you have been talking about some of the Crab grass in your lawns. Basically, I put our selves in the lawn here, we are going to get down and have a list of bend down here with me and we are going to take a look at some of the Crab grass here, you can actually pull up Crab grass. Crab grass is an annual and you can pull this up out of your lawns so if you have little areas where you have Crab grass, just pull it up and weed it, just like you would weed the regular part of the garden.
If you have an entire lawn full of Crab grass, it might be time that you want to put down some sort a chemical, a herbicide to treat the Crab grass, and the one that I have here is Weed Beater Crab grass and Broadleaf Weed Killer and this will control things like dandelions and other broadleaf weeds as well as Crab grass. One Cavia here, be very careful about putting this down if it is over 90 degrees or if your lawn is stressed out, if the lawn is stressed, in other words, if you have a lot of dryness in your lawn and you use this, it will kill the grass as well. The grass has to be healthy in order to use some of these herbicides so if you use them and you notice your grass is dying, your lawn is probably not as healthy or it needs a good drink of water so you might want to hold off.
So, lot of you are concerned about your lawns, if you have got a little bit of Crab grass and some weeds, just leave them alone. They will die off over the course of the winter and we need to be a little bit more tolerant about having some weeds and Crab grass and clover in our lawns, if especially, if we do not want to use chemicals and we want to be more organic which many of you are trying to do.
