Male 1; Right here, vitamin C I think, would, I think is one of the last things to buy. Synthetic vitamin C, I mean not only do I think the body has a really hard time absorbing synthetic vitamin C. When you get it into a plant, it is something the body recognizes. It is something that coming to the human species for millennia. And so what a great way to get your vitamin C source just to chew ants needle or make a tea out of a needles and vitamin C does a great someone if I do not boil it or anything like that but I would, you know, steep it in hot water if you want to make a tea. And it makes, each species makes a different flavor, which is kind of exciting.
Female And so, are all pine needles pine trees?
Male: Yeah, the whole family not only pine trees. I mean, more than pine trees, spruces, and firs and hemlocks, they are all family, the Pinaceae And we won’t have time to go into too much today but families are really important place to focus on because once you get to know a family then you can move in and understand you know, broader uses of that family. And then of course the Pine Nut, I mean my gosh! We are talking about edible food as a hundred species of pines in the world. Everyone of them has edible nuts in them. Some of them are big, in fact with the Stone Pine or whatever as the biggest. Those are what, get to be that big or that high, you know. And then some are kind of papery but do not be tricked. I mean, I have, I did this long walk across California. We got these from four different pines. Two of them were just this thin papery and you’ll think, “Oh, there is nothing there.” Boy! It takes that thin little papery seed and put them in your mouth and it just explodes its flavor. So it is an incredible source of food. And then you know, Pines existed, another thing we won’t have time to go into but evolutionarily plants are pre-flowering. They are division of plants that came before the flowers. They are called naked seeds and they have two kinds of cones, the big cones that you know and then these little ones that put out that white pollen. The—is that white pollens coming off. If you can gather that, and shake it and gather that pollen, that pollen is really high in protein and it also has androgenic qualities, which means it doesn’t have a testosterone but it helps maintain and build testosterones in the body. And you know, men and women both have testosterone. And men especially in this time are being so inundated with what we call xenoestrogens, which are estrogens that have been introduced to the environment, the synthetic drugs, birth control pills, plastics are. Introducing these mimics of the estrogen that men are consuming, and it is knocking our whole inner chemistry out of balance. So here is something we could be eating that would help rebalance our inner hormone levels.
And the native people in the states, would gather that pollen and keep it when they go on a long journeys. And if they got to where they stuck or they needed extra oomphs to get through the night, they would eat this stuff to give them the will. Because one of the things of open your estrogen of your testosterone in your body brings on aggression, and will, and push, and drive, and those kinds of things. So it is a source of giving you that extra oomph you may need that time. So it is a tree that is just, I mean a species, genus that just keeps giving. It is an amazing. And you know, it is that one level, wicking under, you think, “Oh, there is not nearly diversity. And you know, as I was talking about, this is nearly close together so you know, they create, they really shaded it a lot. So they are not letting a lot to lie in. But they are also creating a really acidic sub straight. So they are limiting what could be but through conscious choice and decision you could put in things that thrive in acidic soil. So the whole family of plants love acidic, which is the Blueberry family. So all the blue berries and Cranberries, and, would do really well here. And then also a bunch of other things that we grow. So you could selectively, if this was not meant to be a gathering spot, you could selectively plant tings under here that would thrive.
