How to Get a Baby to Sleep

Speaker: You know the amazing thing is the sound in the uterus is louder than a vacuum cleaner, 24X7, so having white noise doesn't have to be all day long, but whenever you want her to sleep or during her fussy periods, the white noise will help a lot and it's pretty loud, I mean it's like a shee, shee, shee that kind of a volume. So their white noise machine, actually I have a CD that I made of the sound of the uterus so that you can play the exact same sound that baby is responding to inside the womb.

I would tell you one little trick though which is about sleeping. It's fine for babies to fall asleep at the breast or fall asleep in your arms, that's natural. That's the way they are built. After six weeks of age, when your baby falls asleep in your arms and you put your baby down, just jostle him or her, a little tiny bit, just as she opens her eyes and then she will be kind of drunk anyway and kind of so ready to fall asleep that most of the time they just open their eyes for a second and fall back asleep. But that teaches them that they don't always have to have a breast in the mouth or always be in your arms to fall asleep. They can start learning how to settle themselves and just sleep.
