Nicola: We are here with Design2Share, Q&A. My name is Nicola.
Irwin: And I am Irwin.
Nicola: And I am going to start with the question that we get to asked an awful lot. When do we start with the great new look?
Irwin: In my feeling, it is enough to your feeling I am sure as well. It is all about learning to look and learning to look will get you a good look. So, there are few places that we can do that.
Nicola: I think it is all about training one’s eye and I think a great place to start is with magazines and star sheets, it is an instant gratification. You could see right there in front of you. If something speaks to you, will know it all. Maybe it takes an element. It does not have to be the whole room that appeals to you, but certain elements will speak to you.
Irwin: Also movies, movies are terrific. I think learning to see what people who design the movies. What they think and what they see. I think it is quite wonderful. I think the mid-century story, which is very big thing right now of the 60s and 50s, as well as the 70s as once seen in movies is quite wonderful and the way it is done is very interesting and the Brady Bunch, which was a series of the actual period that has introduced on a very differently in movies like the Down with Love. So that, I think is quite, is a wonderful resource and if one can visualize wheb solving that space, well then that is great. The other thing is learning to see interiors, the way when we look at people. We have been brought up since we were children, how to see people. We find people attractive and we find people attractive and we find people unattractive. A beautiful person who sticks with the toilet is totally gorgeous, but might have teeth that are or quarter inch too long or either an inch too wide. Immediately you can see what the problem is, and what that problem is, and it is a proportional issue. And I think that we should learn to see the same in an interior. In fact, there are often times - every one of us had listened to music. It just gives one goose bumps. Why cannot an interior do that? I mean, certain people recent turns us on. An interior piece of furniture or a painting, why not?
Nicola: You are right. Just try it in your eye and tapping into that.
Irwin: Exactly, just about training one’s eyes.
Nicola: And travel also is a great way to be exposed to different cultures, different colors, or synonymous to different countries like Mexico with the very strong colors.
Irwin: Right, or the South of France for example is another one, or something Japanese. Japan is a mix of the Asian simply.
Nicola: Okay, we are not saying that you have to do your whole room Japanese with the present theme, but there might be elements again that you might incorporate into your design. Hotels also are great inspirations. Many fantastic designers that are out there now, but - do wonderful interiors. But again, you can pull ideas from that.
Irwin: It in fact, you were saying that you can buy things from hotels that are, one can take with one and you just have to recreate that.
Nicola: Absolutely, people want to and do, they want to recreate the feeling they had on vacation. How do I that? Okay, then I will sell you the bed that you absolutely loved and slept – slept like a baby.
Irwin: Right. What I think is a self-esteem issue here that I want to talk about and the self-esteem issue is that, there is just not one answer. I can just get so much information that is out in so many different styles. We should not feel intimidated that you are going to choose an interior that is the wrong one. You know – that one has to commit to something, and commitment and self-esteem issue that I think we need just to be aware of and - one gets that. I think it could be really terrific.
Nicola: So - in summary, what we really need to say is just be aware of your surroundings. You cannot find inspiration in travel, in magazines, and maybe hotels.
Irwin: And learning to look. Just keep your eyes open and look. So, when you are looking at the movie and you are looking at the stars and what they are wearing, or to look at the interior and see if you can even thrills you to see something that you want to live in.
Nicola: Absolutely. Well, thank you very much for watching Design2Share Q&A. I am Nicola.
Irwin: And I am Irwin.
