How to Get the Mad Men Style
Watchmojo.com
Veronica: So far Mad Men has won too many awards to mention but let’s face it the
best part of the show is the clothes their wearing. Hi I’m Veronica of
WatchMojo.com and today we’re at Banana Republic to recreate the looks
you covet at home.
So for those of us who already don’t know, tell us about the show Mad
Men?
Jeffrey Spivock: (Banana Republic) It’s a really popular show on AMC set in the
advertising world of the 1950’s. It’s a very beautifully shot show. The
attention to detail is amazing the sex, the look but especially the costumes.
We were extremely happy to be able to partner with them and bring to life
a collection interpreted by the looks of Mad Men and of the 1950’s.
Veronica: How would you describe the men’s wear from the 50s?
Jeffrey: The men, the most important thing is tailor you want to get a great seat
that’s really high on the arm hold. It’s going to be the skinnier leg and
that’s really just made for you. It’s just a look that looks great on you, that
would be the most important and of course there’s the details, there’s
slightly inter tie the pop of a white shirt. And then extra details cufflinks
as well as tie clips these are all little elements that you can easily take
from Mad Men and sort of interpret it in your own way.
Veronica: And how do you describe the women’s wear?
Jeffrey: The women’s wear that we’re looking at was really great women’s office
wear. It’s really interesting time in the 1950’s and there’s really a sort of
different types of looks that have been interpreting. It’s all about the dress.
The dress is really important for the office. It’s obviously very
conservative in a certain ways but there’s also the confidence of the shape
especially with a character like Joan. She’s a woman who knows she has
nerves and isn’t afraid to show them off.
Peggy on the other hand is growing on the other hand is growing into her
confidence and so she wears it in the slightly different way. For 1950’s it’s
all about showing off your waist and the hour glass figure. The belt on top
of the sweater for example, the sweater set with a high waisted skirt, these
are all modern interpretations of the 1950s that are so on trend for today.
