Jean Therapy Boston
Hi everyone. It’s Leah again sorry it’s been so long since I updated the blog. We’ve been
a little crazy at Jean Therapy. We had a lot of great things happened October 10 tends to
be a really busy month for us because it’s fall and everybody is going back to school and
you know it’s fall so you think, “Oh I want a new pair of jeans to wear. I need a new
coat” those kind of things so we’ve seen a lot of people coming and just kind of in the
middle of the fall rush so I’ve been a little creased but no matter I’m here and with a long
awaited and a long over due blog about men’s denim.
So one of the first things that you really want to think about is you want to think about
your body and you know it’s hard for guys, women are taught to critic their bodies up and
down. Men don’t really think about their body as much. They think about clothing, if it
fits, it fits. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t and often they go too baggy because they want it to—
they don’t want to be bothered with thinking about it so don’t buy it big and therefore it’s
going to fit. So you want to kind of think about fit that’s first and foremost and one of the
other things that you really want to think about is the size of your quad and that’s going
to dictate a lot of things in terms of how to height the jean that you’re going to wear.
Key here where there’s very, very and what’s really essential is that you can look for a
jean that fits you perfectly, not too tight, not too loose. You don’t want anything too tight
because clearly you’re not going to wear it and men’s jeans cannot or are really not
designed so much to look like women’s jeans. Now if you are a guy who likes tight jeans
by all means go for it, go ahead. Again, this is a tutorial for guys that are just starting out
so what you want to look for is a jean that fits perfect, it’s not too tight, not too loose and
trust me it’s going to loosen up over time. It will loosen up.
And what this means is that you have to care for it properly if your spending a lot of
money on Jeans you have to take good care of them so that means cold water wash, line
dry. No heat, no hot water, no dryer action. A lot of times this companies are creating a
treatment on to these jeans but feels good as well. So it feels a little better than just the
cotton does so you’re literally taking that away from the jean as well with your taking the
finish off so you don’t want to do that.
We do have men who cannot abide by this rule. They are not willing to change their
lifestyle to fit with the jean and that’s completely fine. If that is your case and it’s fine
then you want to size one size bigger than you fit because it’s going to shrink in the
dryer, okay. So what you want to look for is a jean that fits perfectly as long as you’re not
going to put it in the dryer. The minute you put it in a dryer then your going to look for a
jean that probably has one or two finger twist distance from and the waist and so that it
will shrink when you put it in the dryer.
The next thing is that you really want to think about fit in terms of beyond the quad. You
have think and I’m going to get a little graphic here. You got to think about your butt and
you got to think about your package and these are two areas that are key for men. With
women, women’s jeans are meant to fit a little bit tighter so that a little bit of wedgie
looks pretty cute and nice and you expect that from a woman’s jean it’s going to be fitted
and make her butt look perky. With the men’s jean you really don’t want that. Trust me
you really don’t want that.
So you really want to be careful and you really want to watch out for what we call
sandwich ass and what that means is literally that your jean it looks like your butt is
eating your jean. It’s really sucked in there and it looks kind of like a semi wedge. It’s not
going to be comfortable. You’ll know it because you’ll feel it and that means that the rise
is either a little too short or too long for you. We have to adjust it in some way, shape or
form. The other thing to watch out for is the front. Your package, you know it’s fine if
you want it really tight but you really want to be careful the cuppage.
You know, nobody to see that it’s really not that fun and you kind of keep it well
camouflaged and hidden so cuppage is again you’re going to feel it if there’s not enough
room in the front then it’s going to be uncomfortable. You’ll definitely know if there’s a
little cuppage happening in the front and if there’s sandwich ass on the back so those are
key thing areas for men to think about.
So as you can see with Earnest Sewn (www.earnestswen.com) the pocket is very plain.
It’s a very plain back pocket, what gives it away as a designer denim as we call it or
premium denim is that it feels really fantastic and there’s a lot of workmanship that went
into it to make it look this way. So this is a New York Denim Company Earnest Sewn
and they’re based on the meat pack industry and they do all of their work either in New
York or out of North Carolina. They’re using the factories and via factories and believe
so it’s all U.S. made.
They use really amazing Italian and Japanese and American made denim so it feels really
great. It should fit really nicely, so that’s kind of like gives it away as a designer jean but
it doesn’t say, “Hey, will it get me, I have sparkles in my ass aren’t they cool. You know
because guys I don’t know some guys really sparkles some guys don’t so this is definitely
a good way to go if you’re looking for a more clean back pocket. So for the guy that is
interested in saying to the world I have a pair of premium denim jeans on it and they were
expensive. You’re going to want to go in something on the butt and often times company
use like citizens and sevens (www.7forallmankind.com), the styles are going— exactly
and this is key so that you know what you’re getting into.
It is going to be a shorter back pocket and it is going to follow the same so literally if you
have a girl friend that wore 7 you literally could wear the same exact jean and walk on
the street, which is kind of cute actually. I think it’s a kind of a cute look but this is your
option so it has got the 7 squiggle on the back. It’s the trademark squiggle that everybody
knows it people know the jean. It has got a little bit of a lighter rinse to it so definitely it
stands out in a sea of dark denim. Because Boston is so dark oriented so it’s a beautiful
jean and it’s actually very much like a woman’s jean because again we’ve gotten the light
fade in the front and it’s darker in the inner and outer thigh.
Now this segment is all for a men but I have to stop for a second and say that there are
jeans that work for women and the 32 to 48 range of sizes. So we can fit women up to
about a size 16 in a men’s jean again totally mimics the woman’s jean so again women
who are a little bit curvier shouldn’t feel that they’re kind of out of the realm of premium
denim. Definitely we should be able to help people find something that looks great and
feels good too. The other key is that a lot of men’s jeans actually come a little bit
stretched and that stretch. You’re going to be able to feel it but won’t be able to see and
that’s key for men too because again there are some men that have a little bit of fuller
quad.
Now I get a lot of the people that come in here and say well I have a really athletic body,
I play hockey. I play baseball; I do list that and other thing or weight lift. I can’t wear
premium denim. I haven’t found the brand that works for me. Don’t stick to that rule
there’s so many different cuts out there just like woman’s jeans. There are so many
different cuts out there for bodies, the same thing with guys. If you a little bit of a bigger
quad and you know you work out you have an athletic build you going to want to try a
relaxed leg, that’s probably get me the most comfortable and then work your way to a
little bit tighter if your feeling ambitious.
You know if you’re a little bit skinnier, you might want to look for something with a
smaller back pocket because that’s actually going to give you a butt so that’s you know
something to look for so I hope these tips and these starter tips were helpful today. I’ll
definitely be doing more tutorials for the guys specifically around salvage denim what
exactly is it, other fit tips. So let me know if you guys have any questions or suggestions
for other topics for me to cover and I’ll see you again soon, thanks.
