Male Speaker: Hi everyone! Today we're going to meet Denise Sampson (ph). Denise is quite the adventurer. She's decided to put her house on the market and travel the world.
Nice to see you!
Denise Sampson: Nice to see you! Come on in.
Male Speaker: With an Open House just one week away, it's time for Denise to face the truth about her cozy cottage. Real Estate Expert Shannon Freeman has the tough task of telling it like it is.
Shannon Freeman: This room makes me very sad.
Male Speaker: Oh! Shannon.
Shannon Freeman: There's just no life in here. Compared to the rest of the house, it seems like a little blah! Just a little bit.
Male Speaker: How?
Shannon Freeman: Little blah!
Male Speaker: Just a blah!
Shannon Freeman: This is snapped up!
Shannon Freeman: Oh!
Shannon Freeman: If you've got to put your money somewhere into a house, if you're going to get ready for the market, a good bet is to put it into the kitchen. When I walked in, I saw the stove that's -- actually I think it's corroded. I don't think that this woman cooks.
Male Speaker: No, I can't confirm.
Shannon Freeman: No, there is not a lot of energy going on in this room.
Male Speaker: No.
Male Speaker: In addition to a good old-fashioned scrubbing, Shannon thinks the kitchen needs to be spiced up. It is to be taken seriously by potential buyers.
Lisa: What we're going to do to the kitchen is, mainly, clean it up, empty it out, and give painting. I like to paint the cabinet a crisp white color, and since you already have this wonderful tile floor, I figured that we could pull color out of this floor and just paint the wall with that color. I'm thinking of an Almond.
Denise Sampson: Okay, that will look nice.
Lisa: I want to eliminate that fan that's over the stove, and get instead a microwave fan combination, because having the microwave on the counter sort of takes up a lot of space, and I want to get the illusion of more counter space.
Male Speaker: Lisa also proposes the upgrading the dishwasher and replacing the back door with a glass panel lock to let more lights fill into the small kitchen. Refinishing cabinets rather than replacing them is a cost-efficient way to brighten up a kitchen.
Male Speaker: Okay lady, this is what we're going to do next. We're going to go ahead and sand down all our cabinetry and just give it a nice, easy little smooth down.
Male Speaker: Sanding surfaces first allows the paints to adhere better.
Denise Sampson: How do you know when you're totally done?
Male Speaker: Well, really easy, you just want to go over it lightly with your hand, and just feel for any rough spots or any bumpy spots, and then just maybe focus on that area a little bit. Now this is --
Denise Sampson: This is good.
Male Speaker: This is great, yeah. I think, that's it, we're ready to go. This makes a huge difference already, don't you think?
Denise Sampson: I think so.
Male Speaker: Next, let's brighten up the kitchen even more by removing that old door. The extra sunlight that will soon fill the room will make the fresh coat of paint look even brighter.
Well, time to get down to business. Hopefully, we'll get some bites at today's Open House.
Female Speaker: There is a cute enough amount of counter space. I mean, you have your microwave over here with stoves, that way it's not taking up the space you can use for prep-work here.
Male Speaker: It looks like the new appliances are the key ingredients to making this kitchen a big success.
Male Speaker: Sale, have we made a sale today?
Female Speaker: I'm definitely interested.
Male Speaker: The tired kitchen needed a lot of work. But with fresh paint, new fixtures, a beautiful front French door and updated appliances, this room appears bright and spacious with a state-of-the-art feel, a brilliant transformation for only $900.
