How to Golf: Aim & Alignment

Next, we want to talk about aim and alignment. There is some misconceptions here that I like to clear up first. It is important to remember what are we aiming and what are we aligning. We aim the club face, we align our body. To help us do that we are going to add two more steps to our teaching station. We are going to add our aiming step which you see I lay on my rib and I put down here. And we are going to add our alignment step that we put over our ball position line. As you noticed of those lines are running parallel to each other. So what will happen is, Kent will come in here, set the club face, aim the club face down the target line and align his body parallel to the target line. Powers to come in here with my hoop, you could see that his swing plane or swing circle is right down the target line, okay. Let us show you what happens if Kent gets aimed a little far to the right. He knows that his feet are still pretty square but his shoulders now will get to the right. You can see what happens to his swing circle, it is going to swing out from inside to outside causing bad golf play.

Let us see what happens when Kent gets his swing circle or his aim too far close or pointed to the left. We can see that his feet and hips and shoulders are all pointing left and turn, swing circle is aiming to the left causing the club to go from outside to in. Usually with an open face causing you to do what 98% of the golfers do, cut the golf ball.

So do not underestimate the importance of having your shoulders aligned correctly and help you do that by building yourself a teaching station every time you go out to practice.
