Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow, and this is Real World Green. Today we are going to talk about how to green your oven, more of our greening your kitchen series. Consider this, don't preheat your oven. I was reading about this on tree and then I thought, I'll talk about it. Preheating your oven to cook something takes back to the times when you had coal or wood fire oven that took a really long time to get them up to a proper temperature.
But now a days when you turn this on, you are just -- the gas is on, the electric is on and boom!, it's hot. And I think you will actually save some energy, and that will make your bill go down as well, we like that.
So when you got to fire up this thing to bake some bread, or roast or something, consider putting it in, put the roast in, there, here, boo! That's why I store everything. Put your roast in the oven and then turn on to heat it. It might take a little bit longer to cook, but I think it's going to take less time, than it would to -- it's going to use less gas than you would waste for preheating it. And also if this has to cook for an hour, turn off the oven in 45 minutes. I mean, this thing holds heat and especially if you are using a Dutch ovens like this, these things hold heat forever. So, I like my fancy storage.
Anyway, you know what I mean, play with it, see what you can do. I think you are going to make your electric bill go down or your gas bill go down, and reduce your impact on that earth as well.
Also, if you need to check on something, don't always be peering in here, get an oven with the glass window. I do not have one, big hint for the oven companies, may be you want to send us one with the glass door here.
