The next thing to do is to check the ears. I use either benzoic or surgical spirit. I like the surgical spirit because it evaporates almost immediately. It doesn’t leave anything in the air to clot up the dust.
So again with the cotton wool. When you clean the ear please do not use a cotton bud or an orange stick or anything else that pokes into the ear and you do not push your fingers into the ear, just a cotton wool. You just go around quite gently and if the cotton wool comes out brown then you got a wax problem so you fling that and you do it again.
You do the same with the other ear using a fresh piece of cotton wool. You should do it every week because dog’s ear breeds are prone to get an accumulation of wax and if you have the wax in the ear. The canker is a microscopic parasite that lives in the wax so it gets into the ear and if you leave it the next thing you got is a enormous pet bill and in some cases surgery to put the ears right.
If you want to put a dusting of classic powder in there or anything like that to dry it up and I have here a mixture of powder which is based on Miss Beth’s Hornet powder and if you have any ear problem, you need to put into the ear no more than you get on handle of a teaspoon so that is more than enough for a barrier. You don’t need to do this if the ear is alright and you just drop that into the ear.
If you have any ear problem you should basically clean the ear three times a day. So before you put anymore powder into the ear, you clean out the old and if you do that you should clear up any canker within a couple of days saving your self a vet bill and saving a lot of discomfort to the whole dog.
