How to Groom the Head - Norwich Terrier

Now having done this, the only thing left really is the face itself. Now here, we need to do the stop on the muscle and a little bit of the face where it moves into the rough. Now for that, I'm going to use the stripping knife. And again, where the hair grows between the eyes is what's called the stop, I'm removing all the longest, loosest hairs to even up the coat and make the hair end stop level with the top line of the head. This is just to make it look neat and tidy. Now, the other area I'm going to do is just run the top of the nose itself where as you can see there's an awful lot of long loose light colored hair. I'm just going to shorten some of that by removing the longest pieces. And this will also promote new hair growth in this area and the new hairs will be slightly darker color because they’re newer and that will improve the appearance of the color of the mustache and beard. And the other area is just in front of the eyes, you're going to pull out the longest hairs in that area. Give a nice neat look to the face. If you pull out the hair on the sides of the skull and into the mustache, you can again see the long loose hairs that all need removing. This neatens the whole appearance of the dog’s face. Having done that, it just basically leave the beard area and the ends of the mustache around the lips. Now for this, I use a thinning scissors because this is a rather sensitive area for the dog. And if you're pulling coat out, it’s not very comfortable for the dog. So, I'm cutting off about an inch of this beard because it’s very long. And then just a little off the mustache and the sides just to even up the length of the hair and make it all blend in with the beard, a little bit underneath the chin. And the other side, the same. And then hopefully, we will end up with a nice neat appearance to the head. And just a little bit more in front of the eyes. Here we are, now all we need is just a few lots comb and brush. And there we have a nicely stripped pretty little dog.
