How to Grow Potatoes in Hay

Welcome to Growing Wisdom. I’m Dave Epstein and we’re talking potatoes today. We’ve done a couple of videos on potatoes in the past. These are the potatoes we harvested this year. The purple once you see actually came out of the bag. You might remember in an earlier video, we talked about planting potatoes in a container but we did this in green bag and look at all the purple potatoes we've got.

We’ve got this potatoes growing in hay and it’s all their growing in and they’re not quite ready yet but look what we’ve got. You can see some of those new little red potatoes right there. You could pick it now or you can let it grow a little longer and let get a little bigger which we will do. We’ll put it right back there which one of the great things about growing the potatoes and just hay is how clean they are. You don’t end up with dirty hands because this is all that you have is the hay.

You have to keep them evenly moist though. I found that the hay dried out pretty easily. So, that’s a really stand top of this in a very hot summer. However, small space, maybe you just have a patio when you really want potatoes and you thought, I can't grow potatoes. I don’t have a garden, sure you can.
