Alright, so we are going down into an area of the garden where I have got some tropical plants in that. Before we get there, just take a look at this great leaves, look how big these are, these are just terrific. I just throw those in the container. They are an actually bulb and those who keep going for a little while during the season, right up to October to November, alright, come on, let us go.
So, this particular plant here is a Musa Basjoo, it is a fiber banana plant. This will get to be now if we never got a frost or freezing, this kept going, this would get to be, you know twelve to fifteen feet tall. But what will happen is once I get a hard freeze, this is actually going to die and I am going to protect this very carefully.
I am going to put some straw over it, I am going to cover this with a Styrofoam cap and this will come back next year, even if the temperature gets down to zero minus ten degrees, the plant will regenerate itself in the spring, it is a great tropical plant. The leaves are huge, each of this leaves is about three and a half or four feet long, and it will get much taller next year as it comes back.
I expect this will probably get to be about five to seven feet tall in just one season. Great plants for the gardens, certainly interesting conversation piece and your friends will definitely be amazed if you are going to a banana plant in your garden. The other thing, just a quick stop is also I have got a Yaka plant down here.
This does not even need to be protected; you will be surprised with this great variegated leaf is why I got this. It has got this yellow and green stripe and I actually love this and it has a great contrast with the banana here, certainly interesting here in the garden.
