Gord: If you ever wonder a really nice plant for your container in a full sunny area, you may want to try the Cana. Now it is a great plant and we brought Bob Sparrow to show us how to get a great start on it. Hi Bob?
Bob: Hi Gord.
Gord: Now I have some great some tubers here. I want to plant a Cana in the actual pot. But, they always take a while to get going. Is there a product that you can actually stick that sort of help it get going you know get that root system happenings?
Bob: Absolutely. Microrice is a fungi, is that what we call it and basically it is very present in our forest. But in Ervin’s prowl, we restrict everything back it is not so pleasant.
But, in a particular case of pots worth with cactus,
Gord: Yes,
Bob: We have to add soil amenmence. Adding microriser will help the roots to establish themselves very quick.
Gord: Perfect. Now we have got some soil here and the thing about most soil is not sterilized right? It is really not whole lot in there but, I am going to put a little bit into the bottom here.
I have to choose a really large pot for this Canas because they need a big area.
Bob: Yes.
Gord: Now, if I want to stick this in, do I, would I put this microriser on the ball or in the both side?
Bob: You need to make sure we have contact with the root for quickly establishing get going. So, that is really key, so what we would do is tend to drop that down on the top, and then once the root gets growing, as soon as its shoots out of tuber, these things crawl up and form a relationship with the root that last forever. So also to Gord, it is only one time application. Not like fertilizer where you do it over and over again.
Gord: Now speaking of fertilizer, what I use fertilizer with this?
Bob: Yes we would certainly want you to continue to do fertilizing and all that kind of staff in a same way that you have then.
Gord: Okay. Now, I have used two tubers in the sectional of the pot. I actually like to over plant. I would prefer that to have a bit more in there right? More so,
Bob: Sure.
Gord: We are planting about six inches down.
That should give him a pretty good stop.
Now, you are mentioning put some fertilizer in there, so just apply the fertilizer over top is normal?
Bob: Absolutely. Apply the fertilizer to the top, you are going to water then, it is going to activate and bring it down to the roots system and way it goes.
Gord: well I will grab some of this.
Bob: Yes.
Gord: Stick this on here, I want to slide this on the sides so I know what the heck is going on when it search to come up. Give it a shot of water, and I am going to wait for results.
