How to Grow an Underwater Garden - Part 2

There are two main types of hard corals, SPS or Small Pulp Stony corals and LPS or Large Pulps Stony corals. The SPS corals are usually more difficult to keep so if you’re starting out try some of the LPS choices first. Most hard corals will do better after we have coralline algae build up. Acanthatrea, I’d like to call them egg cans. Comes in many colors and quiet expensive and they like good lighting with moderate water flow. Not an aggressive coral and will keep it to it self. There are many spaces of egg cans. This comes in a variety of color and shapes. Acropora, needs lots and lots of light and high water movement. The tips can break off and fragged easily comes in many species and colors. These are of the types of Acropora. Which are SPS or Small Pulp Stony corals? They are some of more difficult to race. Brain coral, notice the bottom of the coral where the parts had died off. This could been due to lack of sufficient light or it was done by another coral. Brain corals are not aggressive and slow growers. They are quiet colorful. Bubble coral extends great light membranes when the lights are on and tentacles can be seen if you look at them in the dark and had night lights. “Cynarina”, Cenarina corals will expand and can tract in your tank. Now is is contractive but it will get larger at times. Elegance Coral are very colorful and their higher ness depends on the where you get them from. Try to get one from Timber Island. Here you see an Elegance Coral loosing color because of insufficient lighting. I would water before you have months of experience before you try one of this expensive and not so hardy beauties. Enchinophyllia. Here are many types of Enchinos they are hardy and colorful and demand a high price. These are for the more advanced reef keeper whit excellent water quality and strong lighting. If you don’t have both wait until you do. Enchinophyllia comes in many colors and species. It is usually a thin color and not aggressive. ‘
