Welcome to tinkernut.com video tutorials. In this tutorial, I will show you how to hide files inside pictures.
This project is free to do but it does require a program called WinRAR and the purpose of this project is to show you how to hide documents inside pictures to keep them safe. So, let us begin by clicking on Internet Explorer and navigating your browser to www.rarlabs.com. From the menu to the left, click on downloads and then click on the window on the top and once this opens up, go ahead and click “Run” so that we download and install the program. Go ahead and click “Run” again and then once this window opens up, click “Install” at the bottom to begin with the installation. Now, once this program is fully installed, you will see this window, go ahead and leave all these options as they are and click “Ok” at the bottom. Now, you are done installing the WinRAR so click “Done” and then go ahead and close any open windows that you have on your desktop.
From here, go down to the “Start” menu and go to your My Document folder. What we are looking for here is the picture that we are going to use in the file that we are going to put inside the picture. The picture I am going to use is “sunset.jpg” which comes with every version of Windows XP. For the file, I am going to use “secret.txt” which is a simple file that I made simply for this tutorial. It is important to note that the file names cannot have spaces in them, that if they have spaces in them, this will not work. So go ahead and select both of files, by clicking on the one, holding down the control key on your keyboard and clicking on the other. Then go up to edit and select cut. Go back down to the “Start” menu and go to the My Computer icon.
From here, select Local Disk C then go up to “file”, “new” and select “folder”, this will create a new folder. And the name of the folder, go ahead and click “files”, now open up the folder that you just created, go back up to edit and then select “paste”. Now, we are going to convert “secret.txt” to an RAR files so right click on it and then select “add to secret.rar”, this will create the RAR file. Now, from here, go back down to the “Start” menu again, now select “Run” and in the box type in “CMD” and then click “Ok”. This will open up the command prompt. What you want to do is direct the command prompt to where your files are located. To do this type in “CD C:\files” then hit “Enter”. From here, type in “copy / (the name of the picture) + (the name of the RAR file) then hit space again and type in any name that you want to for the name of the next picture” for the purpose of this tutorial, I am just going to put “picture.jpg” then hit “Enter”. And it should look this. So now you are through with the command prompt so go and close out at that and now if you look at your folder, you will see a new file called “picture.jpg” and if you double click on it, it will open up and look, just like the original picture that you get.
So now from here go back down to the “Start” menu and go to “all programs”, under WinRAR folder and open up WinRAR. And once the window loads, go to “file” and select “open archive” and then click on “my computer” to the left, select “local disk C” and then select “files”.
From here, go to the bottom and select “all files” and now you should be able to see “picture.jpg” so go and select that and then click “open.” And then it will open it up just as if it were any RAR file. Now to get your files at, click the “extract” tool button evolve it as it is and then click “Ok”. You can go and close out of that and now you should see a new folder called “picture”, if you open up that folder, you will see your file and it should be the same.
That is it for this tutorial. For more tutorials, go to tinkernut.com
