One of the huge keys that I feel is vastly important when we do this drill is, working on the ball that's middle way and letting the ball get deep. So many hitters have a tendency to jump at the baseball, get out in front, hit the ball off the end of the bat which obviously creates a huge number of problems. And this drill I think is great for teaching a hitter discipline and pitch selection. Again it comes back to being a good hitter you've got to have good pitch selection, you've got to have good pitch recognition, and obviously you've got to have good swing fundamentals to put a good swing on the pitch that you feel is your pitch.
So here what we are going to focus on is, obviously again using the front toss to be efficient with our tosses, trying to work on the pitch that's middle away but really for the hitter trying to let the pitch get in a proper hitting position, a little bit deeper for the ball middle away, work on driving the ball the other way.
And you can see, obviously if we are in a confined area, in a cage, we want to drive the ball back off to screen or off what would be the net, the opposite field net in a batting cage, and again this is very good for getting a lot of swing, but again we want to be effective as well as efficient, it's very important. We are not just in here hacking away that you have an approach, as you go out to the point when we do this drill and that approach should be, I need to look for a ball, middle away in this particular instance and work on getting my hands inside the baseball but also letting the ball get into proper hitting position which is a little bit deeper, driving the ball the other way, I'll throw it way out there.
