How to Hit a Better Tennis Forehand
Mel: Hi, I am Mel. I am with yellowballfever.com and we are here today to talk about forehand groundstrokes and a couple of ways to do couple of extra, and a little bit more controlled and a little more power on the forehand side. Today, the two things that we are going to take a look at to help get little bit more power. If you watch Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the two hottest guys on the tour right now, couple of things that make their stroke sets it apart from the rest of us is that they do a really good job in creating torque from their core. The other thing that they do is that when they meet the ball, they meet it upfront. When I teach lessons to kids and even adults, I notice that they don't use their core enough and they hit the ball too far back. Both of those things are going to not allow you to get this much control on your shot and power. So, as you take a look at this, whenever I come in to the shot, I am going to load up from my lower body and as I come through, my hips are going to leap to the stroke and if I want to make contact, you are really going to try to see that my elbow is going to get straight as I got to the point of contact. As I follow through, the elbow getting start to bend, that's part of the deceleration process, that's okay. Notice the full shoulder turn, that's a really good indication that used my hips and shoulders. If I cut there and I finished like this, probably it is good enough to torso rotation, I still could hit the ball upfront but there is no source of power behind it and so it's going to lag there. So, as I come through, it's almost a 180 turn from shoulder to shoulder.
