Host: October 25th is World Pasta day, a day to celebrate pasta. For centuries
families have gather around the table to enjoy each other and the great
taste of macaroni, spaghetti, rigatoni, lasagna and penne. An international
celebration since 1995, every country celebrates individually. This year
Catelli Canada’s number one pasta manufacturer wants Canadians to join
in the festivities. Chef Massimo Capra owner of Italian restaurant Mistura
and Sopra has the reputation of being one of the best Italian Chef’s in
Canada.
Chef Massimo Capra: World Pasta Day is a day to celebrate the global love and popularity of
this food. Pasta is kind a number one comfort food, it has a reputation of
being delicious and satisfying and there is nothing like gathering friends
and family around the table to celebrate each other in life with the big
bowl of pasta.
Host: Pasta is statue of originated more than 3000 years ago, ancient Greeks and
Romans further develop the dish and pasta became widely popular as
Italian explorers sell to the new worlds. But it was Italian immigration that
sparks wine spread consumption around the world. In 1867 the year of the
Canada was born and ended that from Italy by the name of Carlo Honrado
Catelli as establishers the country’s first pasta plant on Saint Paul Street in
Old Montreal. He begins by making macaroni and vermachilli by hand
and was the first to introduce machines in 1920. Today Catelli as Canada’s
largest pasta manufacturer, 150 million boxes of pasta are produce each
year at there plant in Montreal. Given each remarkable history the
company continues to be a leader in the industry with the development of
Catelli’s smart pasta. Rob Kowal is the Chair of the Toronto Chapter of
the Canadian Institute of Food in Science Technology and President of
Kriscor and Associates.
Rob Kowal: Today’s pasta may look the same as they did in pasta; however Catelli has
reinvented Canada’s favorite food by adding natural healthy ingredients
like immuline. Catelli’s smart pasta is a white pasta with three times of
fiber of regular white pasta and is an example of how far pasta has come.
A nutritional benefit is built right in of the pasta making a food innovation
that Canadians are literally eating up.
