Krista Catrell: Now you don’t have to put your dog in a crate. You can just have them in a different room but I have crates right here so its easy I take a little bit of peanut butter not a lot, I'm not feeding him his whole meal full of peanut butter. And I will literally place it on the bell right at nose range. Now what do I know about dogs, I know that dogs know his work very, very well.
Logan is going to become over there and he’s going to smell that peanut butter and do you know what's going to happened when he does that? He’s going to probably try and lick it off and he’s going to ring bell, in which time I'm going to say “Outside, let's go outside Logan”. Okay, he doesn’t know what I've done, I bring the dog out. He know something is happening at that door, I'm going to wait I'm very patient. He is looking at me I'm still are patient, if and I'm glad that he’s doing this because this is what his life. He knows because he’s a trained dog that I've got something in mind and he just hasn’t figured out what it is.
So if you need to help your dog, you can always hold this up a little bit. Oh, good boy let's go outside, that’s nice good doggy, okay get inside.” Now did the bell actually ring no but did he touch it, I don’t wait for him to hit it 14 times before I kick him outside I would literally just want him to touch it, so if he needs a little bit of help I have the bell here and let's see what's going—well if those nose work. And you can tell this is my trained dog, he’s waiting for something, he doesn’t know what I want. I might jingle it a little, move it around, go this way stand on it, and stand on this side he’s looking at the camera man.
We jingle it a little, “Good boy” he touched it, outside. “Good doggy, good doggy bright Logan, Logan inside, okay”. I'm going to repeat this process, I'm going to always if I need to before the dogs goes outside I might hold the bell a little so that he will actually have to touch it. I'm going to put peanut butter on it and then while I’ll wait sometime he’s actually going to hit that bell all by himself and I'm going to run to my door “Outside, let's go outside” and that’s exciting because that’s how you house train a dog to ring a bell.
Male: Outside.
Krista Catrell: Outside, you want to go outside, its great I love teaching a dog to ring a bell and that way I can take him outside when he needs to go.
