How to Identify COPD

COPD: Symptoms Edward Eden: The major symptom of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD is shortness of breath particularly on exertion. This might be very gradually an onset. The other symptom is cough with usually the production of excessive amount of mucus. This is due to the injurious effects of cigarette smoke which causes an increase of mucus from the lung. The shortness of breath is often due to trapped air within the lung so that the chest becomes larger and larger, somewhat like breathing during full inspirations, so patients complain of shortness of breath during exertion. As the disease progresses, the amount of shortness of breathe increases for less and less activity.
