How to import a boat and a boat trailer in to Canada from the United States and please this is just for informational purposes only. You should always check that your local government agency to ensure that you know the rules before importing anything from the United States into Canada. So this is just a generic view of import fishing.
Most of us that are importing are have made contact in some way through eBay or through online. We need to make sure that all of our paperwork is online and you need to know exactly what you’re buying over in the United States before you go over and do so. You need to do some double checking of certain things. So if you’re going to look at certain kind of trailer, if you can get a vehicle identification number to make the model you need to check with the actual manufacture of that boat trailer or any type of trailer to ensure that there’s no been no recalls on that trailer that have not been basically you need a letter.
Basically you need a letter from the manufacture telling you if there’s been a recall on that trailer. The trailer is considered the vehicle so you need to ensure that it is were worth if there is any alterations that are required you must do so within 45 days of importing within the Canada and you have to report back in through mail or fax into the actual agency that they tell you to report. Our customers requires to submit to our prior notice in order to cross the border and to bring back a trailer or another vehicle back into Canada that will be permanently exported from the United States and to Canada. And they recommend that you contact the act of border that you will be crossing out is much easier to be dealing with the same border that you’re crossing out just in case there’s any kind of complications. And be sure if you ever talking to an agent on the phone. Get your badge number. He may not give you the name but the badge number because after giving you some kind of replace they ship the badge number the same so and so told this is the way I am to do it.
Now there are important website that I highly recommend is that registrar of imported vehicles and I will give you the website on bottom of this 0216 as I continue to talk and this website gets you all the information that you need in order to import a vehicle successfully into Canada. You’re going to want to take documentation that shows you what is been going on and like your payments and any kind of things.
So if you bother on eBay take your eBay receipt and to your question if they’re going into the United States for certain of items, just show them that receipt. EBay has identification numbers for anything like would they give you a confirmation number upon your listing for anybody so that listing confirmation is always on the receipts so they can actually entered back that list. Don’t catch up. You may get away with the first time but don’t catch it and you just going to be very, very careful.
So you’ve now badge your trailer or your boat or thing. You need to have the original titles with actual signatures for all of the paperwork of that vehicle that you were bringing across and your paperwork will have the vehicle identification numbers on it and that is extremely crucial and the reason why they’re looking for that is that if you have anything that is fake or its not good enough they make classify that you’ve actually brought a stolen vehicle. So it’s important that you have the right documents joining the border crossing.
It is also important that you have with you a bill of sale and so we have one our selves that we do when we go to sell about here and basically this is just a copy but this is not a copy. But this is one of ours and what we’ve done is that service Canada will give you a pleasure craft sales contract template and basically these are all the questions that service Canada is going to want to know. When you get back into Canada after you get home and so what we have done is you can actually take this down there and into the United States and fill this out how the customer,. The person that you’re buying, sign it and this becomes an official a bill of sale or if the want it to do it themselves just like who you’d be here anything that we sell. We will just stapler down all our receipt and it has all the same questions as well as they have a few extra classes in the bottom of terms and the sale.
So that is really, really important so when you need original titles you need the any kind of original documentation showing that purchase is actually legal and you also need a bill of sale. You get to the border then so what they’re going to ask you for is the actual real titles of the what they’re checking is really the more the vehicles. So they’re checking your trailer and they’re also checking the legitimacy of your bulk purchase or whatever that is on your trailer.
They are checking more so of the vehicle and you need to present to them the actual titles and they will verify that the vehicle identification number on titles actually matching that vehicle verification number tag on the side of your trailer and in some cases some of the shows that the import the actual tag is really worn. That its really hard to see that information and if they cannot read it or anything maybe a problem sometimes they’ll just say its unreadable and they basically go on one by one basis I believe and so you need to make sure. And so what then they will view is that they will view the two forms of paper work that is absolutely crucial for in order for you to be successful once you get home. And what they’re going to do is they going to look at you bill of sale and you were going to be charged GST that’s; the Government Sales and Services Tax and this is a 5% of your sales. So and this case is $15.00 if they want to charge as 5% and you have to actually pay that at the border at the time of crossing and you need to make aware of that.
If your trailer or your vehicle is over 15 years, you do not have to pay a vehicle importation tax of $204.00 or something like that. It’s around $200.00 and if your vehicle is new or 15years or newer then you will be paying an importation tax of $200.00. So you have to keep that mind that you were at the border that you’ll be paying. You’re GST and your importation tax at the very same time of crossing and you need to plan for that.
