Dr. Artour Rakhimov: People have light easy breathing pattern, breath-holding time was 40, 60 seconds, hence a lot of oxygen in their body. So these people will go to sleep and fall asleep in less than one minute. Their sleep time was very short, only about five hours. So I think here, five hours of sleep. Breath efficient people do not wake up at night and when they woke up, it’s the morning, they have their holding time that was higher than before. So when people are healthy, their breath-holding time in the morning is better, they feel great in the morning, very fresh, they are full of energy, they don’t need coffee or sugar to boost the energy up.
Now, if you can tell about modern people, breath-holding time, oxygenation is less, it’s about 20, 25 in healthy people, in sick people it’s even less. So what happens with the sleep right now? People right now on the west sleep about seven and half hours. So we put here seven and half hours. When they go to sleep, they spend may be five, seven, 15 minutes to fall asleep because they have thoughts. What happens next? They can wake up at night. And what happens always repeatedly all people that in the morning, breath-holding time is less. They have problems in the morning, breath-holding time is short and people experience various symptoms. May be the nasal will block, may be they have headaches, they brush, various negative moods.
Now look at how it is possible that people just because of heavier breathing or they are sleeping not as good as before. But we need to ask question, why do we need sleep? We can sleep probably for two reasons. One reason is to have rest for our brain and also we need relaxation and rest for our muscle. Then we can think about the following question, what is going on with the brain when our breathing is heavy? Well, we know from physiology section that our brain gets less oxygen due to the Bohr effect, less in CO2 vasodilator. So less oxygen, less -- that could fuel some brain. In addition to that, brain have so called spontaneous and asynchronous firing, that means all of the times, there are still some -- brain which can get excite the things light in a way and they produce beyond sickness, interference with nerve, woke up all the nervous system
So it makes sense that the sick people, their breathe says much more information during the day. It’s not totally reality, we need to analyze. We need to analyze also the own thinking created accidentally just due to heavy breath. So normally then it takes more time for the brain to rest during the sleep of modern man. Now what’s happens with muscles? When people have more than 60 seconds breath-holding time, for all of the day and the muscles relax, firing their shoulders up wide, chin is up, this is the normal pause. Now when people hyperventilate, CO2 is relaxed onto the muscles so we are naturally adopt, so called offensive defensive or aggressive defensive posture. So they are mortans, hence they need more time to sleep.
We can observe the same tendency in severely sick people who are in hospital critical care, in the wards of the hospital. They have about five, seven, ten seconds breath-holding time. Between zero and ten, a Russian doctor Dr. Buteyko was telling to us, this is the time when people fight with them. At this moments of time, people sleep about ten, 12 hours a day. So it’s much longer time. We can not awake again because in many cases, if we think about even serious conditions like cancer or diabetes, heart disease and other complications of diseases, there are no pathogen too, for example quality of sleep, before that how does it work? Again for breath.
So these sick people breathe very heavy, up to five times more breathing than the normal and index of oxygenation is very short, breath-holding time is only five seconds. So these people sleep usually much longer, 10, 11, 12 hours or even more. Why? Because brain is all excited, they can’t hope or they might cry for example a book or a newspaper, they can not hope, they need the last sentence then they can get this first one. The mind when they go to sleep is like a Christmas tree so that time keep going, they cannot fall asleep may be half an hour, one hour, they can wake up at night for one hour, they cannot fall asleep again. In the morning, these people often experience attacks as we just discovered before, heart attacks, asthma attacks, epilepsy attacks, all these occurs in results.
So we can see here that heavy breathing for most people would result in more sleep. Not all people are effected in the equal degree, but for more than half of people, there will be very strong tendency to have good quality of sleep with heavy breathing.
We can also think about exceptionally healthy people, for example Hatha yoga masters. These people who breathe very, very light like up here, then we have all the two liters per minute of breathing, that means if all 1% of maximum capacity, it’s almost no breathing at all. When people have three minutes of breath-holding time, very high time and a lot of oxygen. Now if you are going to or use for example some other techniques, Hatha yoga, pranayama and have these high breath-holding time and these type of breathing pattern, then you will take more inhale and then you will have long relaxed exhale for 5, 7, then you would be sleeping content as Russian studies found only two hours, it was the norm.
I found this normal when I studied Hatha yoga books long time ago. The books were written 100, 200, 300 years ago and they know, those Hatha yoga masters were got three minutes breath-holding time, was sleeping only for two hours. Russian doctors found exactly the same level when people get up to 2, 3 minutes breath-holding time. Dr. Buteyko himself was an example and he trained many doctors also to get up to there. We were sleeping only two hours a day, we are now cracked, it was natural sleep to have only this small amount. Why does it take place? We can also think about Bohr effect and CO2 again because for this situation when people breathe even lesser then there would be a little bit high concentration CO2 in the body in the medical norm.
Hence mind will be totally focused in the reality only, there will be no spontaneous or asynchronous thoughts induced in the mind. So the brain will underlie and call what is exist in reality. Of course, at least say, people would behave to rest just during the day, just having got a posture, reflective attitude towards the universe and what is going on around.
