The air pollution on the outside of our homes is what steals all the headlines, but for many people, especially if you suffer from allergies or asthma, the air pollution on the inside of the home can be just as bad. Here are a few simple tips to keep the air inside your home clean and the coughing and sneezing to a minimum.
First and foremost, the home should always be a smoke-free zone. Also, good ventilation keeps indoor pollution down. So open windows and let clean air in and keep doors between rooms open to keep the air circulating. Exhaust fans are another good way to keep moisture and chemicals out of the house. So if possible, have one in each bathroom and above your gas stove.
Dust mites can also be a problem, especially if you suffer from allergies. These are little bugs that like to set up camp in your sheets and your carpets. For the sheets, the answer is simple. Always try to wash your sheets and towels for that matter on the hot setting. And as for the carpets, there is three simple solutions; vacuum, vacuum, and oh yeah, vacuum.
Other bugs can carry bacteria and allergens too. Cockroaches are some of the worst. So keep them away with sprays and traps. Keeping up with current events is a good idea but once you are done, throw away all those old newspapers, magazines, and other papers. They will just collect dust and other allergens.
Oh! One point I almost forgot. It's very important for both you and your children to take off your shoes before you go into the house. There is plenty of fun and games outside but the dust and pollutants that are all over your shoes are unwelcome guests inside the house. With tips for a healthier home, I am Jay Baker.
