How to Improve Your Tennis Serve Speed

It is broadly accepted that racquet hit speed is what an effective serve is all about. There are a few ways that help Kalindy accelerate her racquet hit.

First, I had her swing without striking a ball and make what we call the Wind Sound.

By swooshing the racquet quickly through the air, then I had her actually toss the ball and intentionally miss it but concentrate on still swinging fast enough to again create that wind sound. Then, I had her do the same thing but intermittently I would call out "Hit", we found that this approach took away any fear of missing and she quickly gain some confidence, when then she realized that she could actually swing fast and still get the ball in.

Another approach we took that click with Kalindy was to get in her own car and show her how we had to drive to accelerate from an approach ramp to get into fast traffic flow on a highway.

After that I just had to tell her to prepare her racquet slowly at first and then accelerate quickly to strike the ball just like getting onto that highway. Now, let us move to the final stage for her to develop the beginnings of a complete serve.
