All right folk’s sometimes you wake up first thing in the morning or halfway through the afternoon or whatever and you have an idea for a video so that is the way I work sometimes. This is the whole idea behind this one and that is a lot of people have been saying how do I get better at mixing, how can I get better. A few videos that I have watched from you tube. They have the mates in there in the room with them and they are doing this video and let say watch this video like I said mates are in there and they are trying to impress.
Now then, remix let us check his latest video out because one thing he has said is very true and that is you need to spend time by yourself doing your little mix because it is quite logical when you got people with you in that room the first thing you are going to try and do is impress them. The first thing you want to do is for them to go wow that is… The first thing that you are going to want to do is impress and you are going to want to have that wild factor whereby they going to wow, look at that mix and wow look at how he is taking the base out and bring the mid in. While you are thinking about trying to impress them you are not thinking about what you are doing.
I know that sounds very bizarre but it is true because if it is just you in a room with your turntables, your PC, your CD player whatever. Values the best thing if it is just you in that room with your gear because then it is just you and you will find that you are concentrating more. There is a contradiction here because a lot of people find that they mix better when there are people around them. I only get two meddled up because that is very, very true as well. Because you get the buzz from your friends and you get hyped.
You want to do more and may be sometimes it is better. But for a beginner for a novice, for someone who is just learning the worst thing in the world is for you to have all your mates around while you are doing the set to try and impress them. You are not concentrating on what you are doing. It is a bit like in a sense. It is a bit like trying to run before you can walk. There is no point. There is absolutely no point, by all means. When you are friends are around.
Have a goal. But for god sake when they are gone go back and do some real homework. Class that as the messing about time but as soon as they have left the room when you got a couple of hours just sit down, relax, turn the music on and just start to practice. That is when you need to practice. Then when you get better and beat start jellying together. The melodies are starting to work and stuff like that. That is when you get your friends around because instead of them just messing around and acting stupid. They are going to be watching you and listening.
Quick video that is what it is about. Practice by yourself and like I said when you get better. When you get not much better, but it is just a natural progression mixing and what I find and this is from my own personal experience is like riding a bike. When I say like riding a bike, it is not like riding a bike. But what I am trying to say is this once you learn how to ride a bicycle you can put that bicycle in a shed and it will go rusty.
You can buy another bicycle 10 years later because the one you had first off is not good but as soon as you get on that bicycle, that new one you will ride it straight away. In other words as soon as you learn how to mix, you learn the facets, you got the knowledge etc. It will never, ever go away. But you need to build on that knowledge first.
If you get that knowledge first and then the rest is history. Practice and enjoy.
