This video is to help you learn how to improvise, that's being able to play just off-the-cuff and being able to do whatever you want to a simple riff. The rift that we're using is really easy and is an E Miner chord to an F Miner. It's actually power chords or minor chords, depends on which way you look at it.
The first step to improvisation is, knowing what notes to use. So for right now we're going to use two notes. Those are open string on our first string; right there and then the third fret on our first sting, which is right there. What we're going to do is, we're going to make up songs just by using those two notes. Now it may sound kind of simple for right now, but that's okay; you have to start somewhere, something like this...
You can pause it and try it. Right now I'm just going to add our riff, our chord progression. I'm going to try doing that with the other guitar. So as you can see, there is no right or wrong as long as you use those two notes. Now the cool thing is the E Minor fret high scale, which we're kind of learning right now. The second string is the exact same as the first string; finger wise, sound wise is different. Second string sounds like this...
So what we're going to do is, we're going to just play on the second string this time. Play along with me or do it by yourself. Now let me use both strings. Try with me. Now, we get to go to the third string. We're going to use our middle finger this time. I'm going to set up our third finger, and so it's going to sound like this...
Just the third string, let's try it. Now the fourth string, 0 and 2. Use the third and the fourth string now. Fifth string the same, and the sixth string is the same as the first two. So third fret... Can you remember it? It goes 3, 0, and 3, 0, then 2, 0, 2, 0, another 2, 0, and 3, 0.
Put them altogether and use all the strings, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, almost like a phone number. So it can sound like this... Let's put it with the music. Done, Lesson one.
