This is the last day that I am going to be a slave to watering my urban sustainable living garden.
When we put together a drip irrigation system, we have to start at our spigot. I have got my manifold already hooked up. I have got my timer first, of course, then I have got my filter, and you really need a filter because you want to make sure that there are no impurities in the water. There is a stainless steel filter inside that basically screens out any little particles that might get into your drip irrigation system and clog it up and we don't want that to happen.
Then I have got my regulator here and that's going to give me 30 pounds per square inch of pressure. Then I have my easy lock setting. My easy lock setting is where I connect my mainline tube to it and the great thing about this system is that you really don't need any tools. All you have to do is make sure that when you are screening anything on, it's pretty much hand tight.
Alright, all I have to do is make sure as I get it in here that it goes over the whole nipple here. Screw the collar on and just hand-tighten it. Alright, that is in. I want to bring my mainline tube around this corner. So I am going to have to put an elbow-in, and I am attaching my mainline tube with some zip tight here. Alright, I have almost got this mainline to my garden.
So, I have run my mainline tubing into my urban sustainable living garden. I have secured them neatly with some zip tight to my electrical conduit here and then I put some elbows-in just to make it nice and neat and bring it to my raise beds here. Now I am going to take this mainline tubing and run it all the way down my raise beds, then I am just going to be able to attached my dripline connectors wherever I want them in my raise beds.
I am going to attach the half-inch mainline to the top of my raise beds here using one of these clamps. And now, I am just going to repeat the process and attach it to this line of my raise beds. Alright, I have finished securing my mainline tubing and now all I have to do is put my easy lock and cap on. Alright, now onto the next step.
Alright, I have installed my mainline tubing in my urban sustainable living garden and now it's time to install the soaker dripline. So the first thing I need to do is I need to put a hole in my mainline. Now we have got some glue-plugs, so in case I do make a mistake, I have got this glue-plugs that I can pop in and no one will ever know. I am using the Miracle Punch here. It's really easy to use. Now I have got my quarter-inch tubing here. It's solid, there are no holes in it, and I have got my transfer barb.
Now I have got to get these two together. So I have got a punch/insert tool and that's going to just make it so much easier because there are lots of them to do in this garden. So I just take the transfer barb, put it in there, then just line up a quarter-inch tube and voila! It makes me feel so much stronger than I really am.
So I have got this. Alright, on the other end of my tubing, I am going to get a very slow valve. Now this basically allows me to turn it on and off anywhere in my garden depending on what I have growing. So let's say I have already harvested everything, then I can turn this section off, and not have to waste water, money, all of that stuff.
To my very slow valve, I am going to connect my soaker dripline. I am using 9-inch soaker dripline which means there are emitters every 9 inches. You can get them in multiple sizes 6, 9, or 12-inch spacing for those emitters depending on what you are growing. Alright, that's perfect.
Now I am going to take all of these together and pop it into my mainline. Alright, you want to push it in until you hear that pop noise. Now before I layout my 9-inch soaker dripline, I am going to attach an end plug to it and again I have just got my punch/insert tool, and now I am going to lay it out. I have got this U-shaped hold downs and I am just inserting them at an angle to keep my soaker dripline in place.
Alright, this U-shaped hold downs, you want to pop them in basically every three feet or so. I am here by about my 4x4 raise bed and I have already laid out my quarter-inch tubing around the inside of the bed because I am going to do things a little bit differently. I have a very jet sprayer that I am going to use in this bed. I am going to use four of them actually.
So I have my valve-stick and to that I have attached my half moon very jet sprayer. It's going to give me a nice even half moon spray from wherever I put it. So the first one is just going to be sticked right in here and the great thing about this is that, of course, it's got a valve. You can turn it on and off, and it also has a valve so you can control the spray.
Alright, I have just got a little piece, about an inch or so piece of quarter-inch tubing and I am going to just push that on top. You can screw it in, you can push it in, it's pretty simple. Then I am going to attached the half moon very jet sprayer and I am done. Alright, I have got this one in.
Alright, now I am connecting my sprayers. So I have got my quarter-inch tee here and I am taking my tubing and just popping it in. So I have got the tee in place and I've just got a 2-inch piece of tubing that I am going to attach.
Alright, so I have my 2-inch piece of tubing and I am just going to connect and voila! My sprayer is connected, and it's going to be great, because it's going to give me a half circle of spray in this bed where I have laid each one out. They are all going to slightly overlap each other and it's going to give a nice even watering top my 4x4 raise bed.
Alright I am done with my 4x4 raise bed, and now I can stop watering my garden.
