How to Install Front Derailleur

We are going to install a Front Derailleur. Front Derailleur installation is relatively simple. It's used to be, you have to specify the diameter of your seat too, and you have one-and-an-eighth inch, one-and-a-quarter inch, and one and three-eighth inch. Now, pretty much all the Front Derailleurs come one-and-three-eighth inch and then they come with a shim for one-and-a-quarter or a different shim for one-and-an-eighth seat tube. Put in the bolt.

Now, loosely attach it, and see it's too low that it was hitting chain rings. So raise it up some. You want to make sure that it's going to clear the chain ring. You want to have this very close, but obviously not hitting the teeth.

You want the space to be 1-2 millimeters over the chain ring. If you want the chain ring and the outer derailleur cage plate to be parallel, go ahead and tighten the bolt. That looks like about a millimeter, maybe a millimeter-and-a-half over that chain ring. So that's pretty good.
