Mike Agerbo: I get lot of people writing and saying that laptop system what they use to be as far as speed, whether there is someway to a do if relatively inexpensive upgrade that will it a nice performance boost, we have got our resident laptop upgrade expert Jamie Brigden in studio with us, thanks coming on show.
Jamie Brigden: Thanks Mike.
Mike Agerbo: So, we have got an Acer laptop here and we want to upgrade the RAM and so you know from what I have seen maybe you can verify this too. Whenever I have done an upgrade on a laptop as far as the memory, you know even doubling the RAM really gives it a huge speed increase.
Jamie Brigden: Oh yeah, if you wanna get the easiest boost that your computer through in some RAM it's really easy to do been nice some quick too so.
Mike Agerbo: And the price is again always dropping in relatively inexpensive as well.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah, $30 to $50 depending on the market of the time.
Mike Agerbo: So what's the first thing we are going to look at when we wanna upgrade?
Jamie Brigden: Well you want to make sure you are checking the website of the manufacture of your laptop like Acer's website or the manual that came up the actual laptop you purchased.
Mike Agerbo: So if go to acer.com under in to the support site for example, we will a lot going to find out what kind of RAM that this particular model takes, but it will also hopefully show us where it goes.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah absolutely, generally every laptop company will give you the idea what to do.
Mike Agerbo: And usually it's underneath.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah.
Mike Agerbo: I remember in the old days when laptop first came out, you have actually have to take the whole keyboard apart and some of the laptops.
Jamie Brigden: Even some still will be like that, but for the most part of the laptop company's they try to make it little easier before and so. I already done, I have already unscrewed all the screws on the bottom here to make it easier for us. So I'm just going to pull the bottom off and it's going to showcase the RAM here. So we have one chip in they are right now on this, this laptop actually take's two so I'm just gonna quickly pull this little tads here side and pops up the RAM.
Mike Agerbo: So you just pull it out and we have got the two chips here.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah.
Mike Agerbo: And these are 1 giga each so we can upgrade the 2 giga.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah so must not take that the first step, grab them from the sides when you are going install it, this way you make sure that you are going to zap the chip with static electricity and before you handling them unlike we have here just grab some in that metal so ground yourself.
Mike Agerbo: So that you don't zap though.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah you don't want to damage I mean something you just purchase. You can find a little notch sometimes on the RAM like right here. And you could find this is same notch is on there and I can just slide it in on roughly about 45 degree angle, just as easy with a little bit of pressure and it should click in.
Mike Agerbo: See want to make sure click on both sides.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah here click this makes sure your RAM is secure right so, we do the same thing with this, with this chip here.
Mike Agerbo: And can you wanna look for the notch so that it goes in.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah, just wanna to make sure as lining up, sometimes they are little harder to get in like this one may not go right away. So just got to try second time or try third time even just don't force it if it doesn't seem like its working
Mike Agerbo: And I just click like that.
Jamie Brigden: Click right to in try, try it in nice and easy.
Mike Agerbo: So we basically put the cover in and obviously screwed back in and once you turn the laptop on it automatically typically recognize this.
Jamie Brigden: Yeah, it should be good to and everything works.
Mike Agerbo: So you don't have to configuration in the laptop.
Jamie Brigden: Should be great to go.
Mike Agerbo: Well so you can see the RAM upgrades is not too difficult, one of the cheapest way as I feel that you can actually get a good performance boost for you laptop.
