One of the processes of finishing off this room and one of the most exciting aspects of it is going to be the ceiling—that is tongue and groove. We are not going to use traditional drywall, instead, the owners decided to use wood and not just any wood but a traditional beaded ceiling. It is gorgeous and there is a couple of thing you need to know to make sure the job goes smoothly.
One of the really neat things about beaded ceiling is that it has a tongue and a groove. And why is that important? Well, it creates a look as you join the pieces together. For example, as you join the two pieces together, it recreates that groove or that bead that is in the center of each individual board.
In order to make the job go faster, we went ahead and pre-stained and pre-refined all the wood pieces on the ground because that keeps mess to a minimum. It is hard to do it with a stain falling down in your face. Let the material dry and now it is ready to put up.
The tongue and grove aspect allows you to blind-nail the product. You can actually drive nails in an angle through the tongue and when you put the second piece over it, it completely disguises the nail and you do not see nails anywhere in the entire ceiling.
As you can see, wood ceilings add a lot of flare and character to a room. I highly recommend, you consider one for your next job.
