Okay our project this time is replacing the rear mufflers on an 840Ci. The reason we're doing this project if that the factory mufflers are made of mild steel and this particular car here has had severe rust at the rear by the tail pipe and at the entry pipe into the Can.
To do this project we are going to do is to cut the muffler the factory muffler gets cut off at this point. This would be the same procedure if you are going with a new factory muffler. What you'll do is you'll take the Super sprint Exhaust you'll size it up to your factory system you'll allow three addition inches of material that means you come to the rear of the car 3 inches and you'll cut the pipe off there that'll give you a 3-4 inches of slip movement in total, you can go about 3 inches out with an 2 inches out and you'll be able to move it in an-another inch.
So what you'll be able to there is adjust the tail pipes in and out to get the two tail pipes even. So can use a Saw Jaw you can use a pipe cutter you can use the Hack Saw, Saw Jaw works the best. You'll clean up the pipe so it slips over easy and then what you'll so is you'll put the muffler basically in the position that it needs to go in just slip it over the pipe this particular unit as a flange joint there's is Baer Brake where this is applicable and what you'll do here is you'll slip that slip joint over the pipe, match your muffler in position put your factory hangers back on to the Super Sprint Exhaust.
The factory hangers are adjustable front to rear and the nice is the Super Sprint Exhaust is a 100% stainless steel. So this type rust that won't happen again. This will probably be the last exhaust you put on this car, there'll be no corrosion there'll be no sound deterioration the car will have a nice crisp-I would say a very mature sound that'll make this car feel like it's a new car again.
You've got the other side you'll have the same situation I recommend do on one exhaust at a time that way you are not moving things in different positions do you left muffler first get it situated once you are happy with the way it fits you'll go to the muffler cutting the other piece off. This'll keep your positioning of the resonator in the right spot.
Project shouldn't take more than a couple hours may be two and a half hours--- obviously if you have a lift, get the vehicle set up make your cut marks make your cuts install left muffler, install right muffler you bring it down closer to eye level and then adjust your tips. Tip adjustment may require loosening the flange twisting the muffler slightly if you move the muffler slightly to the left or to the right and then walk your flanges down that's what locates the thing on the alignment of the tips as far as flocking the tips the front to rear adjustments is basically done by sliding the entire muffler forward or back that's you want to do is you want to look for an equal distance to the bumper on both of the inner tips.
When you all complete it lets go for a road test. Okay we are going to test the car just to see how it sounds on the lift right now. Nice aggressive sound but still quite enough so you can use these as replacement exhaust if you just want to put new exhaust on your car at a cheaper price than factory.
