Hi! I am Tim Hall. We are here today at Redondo beach location 4WheelParts to install and show you guys how to install a Banks PDA Power Programmer on a Chevy 2500 Duramax Diesel.
Alright! As you can see here, this is our PDA from Banks that we're going to use and it's a Palm Tungsten unit. But the thing -- the neat features that it gives us here is obviously our Exhaust Gas Temperature, our Boost in PSI, our Engine temperature in Fahrenheit, our Engine RPMs or what have you. The first step in any successful installation on any parts is always going to be referring back to your owner's manual. Make sure you read through it from start to finish and thoroughly understand it before you begin any installation process.
The first step in our installation on any electronics purchase is always going to be to disconnect your negative battery terminal. As you can see, we already have them disconnected and keep in mind on a diesel pickup, there might be two batteries. Our second step in this installation after we've got our battery disconnected is going to be to pull out the driver's side front fender wheel, so we can get to the Exhaust Manifold.
We've got a pyrometer probe that goes in there, that we're going to have to install. Basically, what you do is, you just take your inner fender liner bolts out of here and the next thing what you're going to do is you're going to pull the liner out itself.
Alright! Our next step in this process is going to be to drill a hole in our Exhaust Manifold and tap it out with a pipe thread tap, so we can put in our pyrometer probe.
Basically, the hole is going to be drilled about 2 1/2 inches forward of the flange, where the Exhaust Manifold meets the Exhaust Flange right here. As you can see my finger is right there next to the hole.
Alright! The next thing we're going to do is we're going to find proper placement for our Banks brain that we're going to put on to the hood of the truck. One of the major factors into this that you got to keep in mind is the fact that you got to have proper clearance when the hood shuts to make sure it doesn't rest on the brain itself. At this point in time, as you can see, we've got our pyrometer hooked up here, our main hook ups for the computer that are just steep lines that are going to connect right into here.
We also have our map sensor hookup, that is a T'd line as well. And then we've got our wire that goes to our PDA which goes to the dash. What we're doing now is we're running the wires up. Then we're going to hook to our PDA inside the dash, and we're going to run that through one of our Bulkhead Grommets that we have got here by the sector shaft. You can hardly see it, but trust me it's down there. What we've done is we ran a red wire from the inside of the cab out to here in order to be able to pull this wire through.
Okay, our next process is going to be putting the Banks brain unit on the top of our ECM. In this particular case, the Banks unit comes with double-sided tape and velcro on it. Our next step in this process is going to be to hook up the OBD-II Sensor and then hook that to the PDA itself. So you're going to find that your OBD-II sensor is right underneath your dash right here, and then this piece is going to plug right into that, and then on the end of this, one is going to go to the PDA -- excuse me, one is going to go to the wiring harness, the other one is going to go to the PDA.
Alright! On this particular application, what we've done is we've removed our fuse panel over here on the side of the dash itself. And we've ran our connecting cord to our PDA behind the dash and through the fuse panel right there, right up to the top of the dash. And that will in turn hook into our Banks PDA holder which will suction cup on to the windshield itself.
Alright! That was the installation of our Banks PDA. Some of the features that come along with it is going to be an added extra 125 horsepower on its highest power setting, and also on the second setting for the Fuel miser, you're going to get anywhere from about 7-10 % increase in fuel mileage. And as always if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to call your local store, we'll be more than happy to help you out with any questions you might have.
