Female: He’s busy.
Male: Hey everyone! Today, we’re going to put in a bathroom faucet. The pups are going to help. This is really going to help. Ours, we’re going to have to do a little bit of extra work on because it’s very old, but I just want to show you, if you want to replace the faucet, is it leaking or something. You can do this in your kitchen, in your bathroom, your utility room, wherever you want to go, right guys?
Female: As long as you have a milk jug.
Male: This is a very inexpensive play toy for puppies if you, it’s a milk jugs. You just give it to him and they go, ready? Oh! Hello Mitchie.
Female: Do you know you have your Mr. Magoo glasses on?
Male: Yeah, I got my Mr. Magoo glasses because I need to see close up today. Usually, you’re underneath your sink, you already have these turn up valves like this and in our house we don’t have them. So we have to put these on first. We’re going to have to disorder this joint right here and then we’re going to put on a fitting and I’m going to put these on here.
Female: What’s up with the tin foil, that’s not usually in our bathroom.
Male: No, but the tin foil is here to protect the paint because we’re going to be using a propane torch fairly close to the wall. You should have your fire extinguisher, close by. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this then perhaps you should have a professional do this, all right, this is not partly official how-to, this is just Eric doing it right, because propane near a wall can start a fire, ok.
Female: Do we need to hire a professional?
Male: No.
Female: I though you are professional
Male: I’m the master of the objects.
Female: How is it going?
Male: What I forgot to mention is, we need to remove these, these copper pipes, are going up into the faucet and you want to disconnect them before you try and pull this off. This makes it really hard. The problem is, is those pipes are connected up in their, and their really tight space. Hello again. So what we’re going to use is a faucet nut tool and this is the kind of thing you’ll only use maybe once in a lifetime, but my father-in-law, David, gave this to me a couple of years ago and I said, what am I ever going to do with this? And today, I know what I’m going to do with this, all right, so thank you David.
This reaches up in and turns so, this is the nut. It grabs on to the nut and turns it. Well it turns it that way. So those two nuts up in there you can see the copper pipes go up in, we need to disconnect those nuts from the bottom of the faucet here. So I can’t get the wrench up in there and it looks like we’re basically going to have to take the sink off to get the faucet out which is not surprising cause this is an old, an old sink and that’s how they used to do it. So I have to disorder the other connection and this should fairly easily pop off the wall. If we say fairly, it’s like we’ll see what happens, all right?
Female: It’s hard to saw when puppy is looking at you.
Male: I’m playing with fire.
Female: Don’t do this at home.
Male: Oh here we go, this is the puppy, and the milk jug and these are the joints that we have to disconnect, you can see how tight that was, just not able to get in there. So when you take these nuts off of here. And we can remove the old faucet. So you can see what life is like here alright so
Female: Not ours
Male: He’s not ours, he’s, he’s Bill’s thankfully. All right, so I took the nuts off, now this is ready to come out.
Female: oh, fifty years or what else?
Male: Fifty years or so that’s all what it is. So this comes out. So you can see that’s, pretty old.
Female: Did you have the measure so he, so you know what size the new one’s supposed to be or is it all standard?
Male: These standard, four inch. What you do is you measure from the center to the center; you measure from the center to the center of the post and this, this is four inches, so this is what you call a four inch post. It’s a pretty standard thing but you should double check. There are some weird things out there.
Here we go, this is our, our new fixture, it has a gasket, here and this goes like that, these go here, these are much easier to put on than the old ones. This does not have to be super duper tight, just tight. Okay, to connect your valve, which is going to be on the wall here to your faucet which is here, we’re going to use these new hoses. This is a flexible hose that has a stainless steel protective braid around it. And one end is a half-inch “F.I.P” which means female “I.P” I don’t know what that means. But basically this means, it’ll screw into the faucet. It says here, “Faucet Connector”, and the other end is a three eighths compression connector because I bought the three eighths compression valves here.
The beauty in these is that they’re very flexible, you can even bend them like this. I bought two different lengths and I’m going to opt to use the longer one. If it’s a little too long, what you can do with these is you can turn them like this which is very cool. You don’t have to line everything up perfectly that way, it’s just, it’s like a garden hose, with a flexible shield around it. So, if you have questions, go to your locally owned hardware store okay and ask them. Find the oldest guy there, cause he knows everything.
Except me all right, so to make this easy, we’re going to take these and we’ll connect them on here. Now these are hand-tight alright. Hand-tight and a quarter turned and that’s it. If it’s too tight it will distort this washer here. This is a rubber washer, you don’t need any teflon tape on this because the washer makes it sealed for you. Don’t use any teflon tape on these.
Our sink already has a stopper mechanism in it. If you’re putting in a new sink, you’ll have to put in one of these. It’s really simple just follow the instructions that come along with it. From the new box, the new faucet box, I’ve taken the faucet stopper rod and the extension and I connected it to the existing rod here that controls the faucet stopper. Okay so we have our --I put our threaded connections on here and now I’m going to use teflon tape and you put teflon tape on, on a clockwise direction. And then you just pull like that, then we put in our new valves on and then you tighten these. This, we can take and curl this in a circle and connect them. So these go on finger tight andthen we’re just going to do a quarter turn, alright? There you go, alright, so there you go, really simple, it should be a little less complicated than what we had to do with this one. It's ause it’s an older faucet but you can do this, just be careful follow directions that come with the box and watch our video and learn a little bit. And then come to thegreen house
Female: Tin-foil your wall.
Male: Tin-foil your wall and you probably dont have to do that. I caution against that and then come to the greenhouse.green-house.tv andtell us what happened. Take some pictures, makea video of it alright? Ready guys? See you later!
