How to Install a Home Theater - Rear Projection and Flat Panel
When we look at a flat panel versus rear projection, most people will immediately say, well I want the flat panel. Size matters, size matters in the size of the screen, size matters in the depth of the screen. But then how much are you willing to pay for those extra few inches or few less inches. When we look at a flat, a rear projection, here we see that that is approximately seventeen and a half inches deep. So when we look at a typical flat panel, well that’s only four inches, so that’s a big difference. However, when you start to add the mount behind that, it’s another four inches. So most of the time, it’s gonna be about eight inches away from the wall. So now you’re talking about the difference between eight inches and seventeen and a half inches. Ten more inches you can go from a 3,000 dollar or 2,500 dollar 60 inch, 70 inch rear projection. However, the 65 inch plasma is around 75, 8,000 dollars. So big difference in price for about the same number of inches in actual viewable screen in which you’re paying for is the convenience and the sleeker look of the flat panel.
