Chris Duke: I'm Chris Duke and today on Motorz we're going to show you how to install a truck cap from leer as well as a bedrug and a bedtred.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Now welcome to MOTORZ you probably noticed that we're not in our normal shop and that's because we're out on location in San Diego the reason is we've got this big old lifted Ford Super Duty it's not going to fit in the shop and what we're going to do today is we're going to show you how to install these truck caps from leer this is a 100XQ and normally a dealer would install this for you but if by chance you should want to pick one up yourself and install it we're going to show you the step by step on that.
Now once we've installed that we're going to take this bedrug right here and toss that into the bed. Now once we're all done with this vehicle we're going to head back to the shop and we're going to install one of the newest products called bedtred its kind a like the bedrug but totally different on a GM truck let's get start on this guy.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Now the first thing you need to do is you need to put your cap upon the bed of your truck and you're going to need a couple of buddies to help you out with that because these things are really heavy especially this one on our long bed pickup truck glass on there. So once you've got this kind of setup there we need to put on our weather strip here on the front of the bed and that's to keep all those elements from coming in that's not unlike any other 01:21 cover that you might install once you've got that put on you need to disconnect the third brake line, the reason is it's because once you hit your brake pedal its going to shine some light of the cab and back in the cab it's going to be a big hot mess. Now there is a third brake light that's on the back on the cab we'll show you how to connect that in a little bit.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Now after you've got that third brake light disconnect then you can move your leer cab all way the front in bed of the truck.
Male Speaker: Ready.
Chris Duke: Yup.
Male Speaker: You want me slide down one more.
Chris Duke: Yeah. All right one more and we're about there. Now you want to make sure that the both sides are aligned properly and enclose the tail gate make sure you've got some good fit in there and on the driver side. Now you can lock down your leer cap with the provided clamps there are six of them this flat end here goes underneath the bed trail and this 02:30 goes between the rail and the cab now you're going to need a half inch socket as well as the half inch wrench to tighten these down.
Now the Leer 100XQ comes pretty wired for a third brake light as well as this interior light now you have to do is drop the provided down to one of your factory holes in your bed I will show you how to hook up the wire -- connect the dark green wire from the leer wiring horn as to your brake light wiring which in our Super Duty is this light green wire here we'll also find a local ground and connect the one then you're also going to find the 12 Volt power source and run that wiring horns all the way up to the engine compartment and connect with your battery.
Now leer offer this knob on the interior to crack the window and that provides just a little bit of ventilation. Now that does it for a leer 100 XQ install it's not too bad now the next thing we're going to do is we're going to install a bedrug which is not only going to protect our knees but also our valuables. And it's pretty easy to install first thing you want to do is invert it then there is this giant zipper that it goes all around the outside of it you want to zip that thing up.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Now the bedrug comes with all these hook and loop fasteners isn't there is a couple of long strips that go along the front here as well as on the bottom on the sides just peeling off that comes with these nice indentations here and you just stick them on one by one. And there is the last one much pretty good now you've got all those hook and loop fastener on we need to invert the bedrug and then put it on into the truck.
Now before you're going to sticking all these hook and loop fasteners the surface grab some rubbing alcohol and a rag and clean the surface and you want to make sure that you actually do the bottom once first before you do on the sides. Now one of the other thing is you need to make sure you do is remove your tied downs before putting on your bedrug and after you put your bedrug on pop some holes in there and then put these back on.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: -- does it for a installation of our bedrug as well as our leer 100 XQ both pretty easy to install now when we come back from our break we're going to show you how to install a new innovative product form bedrug these guys are been making the bedrug for years and they finally came out with a new product called bedtred its just as easy to install but it kind a look likes a spraying bed liners so we'll be back right after this break.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Hey welcome back now we're going to install another product from those same guys who had been making the bedrug for so many years this is an innovative new product called bedtred and what it does its gives you that spray on bed liner texture its a little bit more rigid it installs very similar to the bedrug with those hook and loop fasteners now we're going to install this on a Chevy Pickup Truck and all you're going to need is a rubbing alcohol a pair of scissors a utility knife and some rags.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Now we have got a 2007 Custom Chevy 1500 Pickup Truck for our bedtred installation which installs very similar to the bedtred that we just showed you how to install use very similar hook and loop fasteners the difference is that installs in different pieces so what we're going to do is we're going to start with these headpiece right here by turning it around and installing some of the hook and loop fasteners there is an adhesive version as well as a non-adhesive we're going to ahead cut off some of these adhesive hook and loop fastener before we get to that part.
After cleaning down your bed with some rubbing alcohol and a rag take the adhesive fastener and you want to put a strip right along the top here at the very top and on this bend here and you want to put another strip right there and once you done there you want to cut five to six two inch long strips along the bottom here with that bedrug you've got a zip that goes all way around on the bedtrec we're not as lucky we actually use this two inch non-adhesive hook and loop fastener it's got to go around the edge.
So we actually got to take our strips that we have laid down move them up a little bit because what we need to do now is we need to take this two inch strip we need to lay it all the way around the edge now here because there is a little bit of the depth we're going to cut a section that's about that long and another piece that's about that long and other piece that goes down in here and another long strip of this its going to go all the way down the bottom and this is going to allow us to attach the other panels.
Now, similar to the bedrug you want to start to take this piece and take off the adhesive backing off from the center on the bottom and you want to start putting that down first once you've got the bottom laid down and you kind a press it on and you can take off the other piece there on the top and press those on as well.
