Here is a prime example of a backdoor entry. Look at here, just a passage set. No lock whatsoever on the outside and up above it, a dead bolt but only the thumb type. No key on the outside.
Now, what happens is you are to go outside and work in the garden. Obviously, the backdoor is left wide open for intrusion. Let us change that by putting in one of the coordinate sets that are now are available in your building supplies stores gives you the locking knob set as well as the locking deadbolt and we can exchange it. Take it out and replace it with a much better line of locking device.

Now, I just remove the old receiving plate for the deadbolt. As you can see it had very short screws but only two screws retaining it.
Now, the new one has got four screws holding it. Two of which are extra long to go right back into the super structure of the home, right back into the 2 by 4 as well as even the secondary screws are twice as long as the ones holding the old. This is very good security at the prime of the plate retaining the deadbolt.
Now, in order to install the new deadbolt I have to now drill the diameter hole which is an inch and half through to the other side of the door.
Now, by looking inside, I can see the center point of the drill what was used previously. So, that will identify now, if I take a drill with the very small drill bit and match it up with that center point and drill through. That will give the exact center of the previously drilled dead bolt hole and there we have it, right there.
Now, is the matter of putting our hole saw in my drill and drilling on through to continue that whole to give me the whole clamp of the door’s thickness.

There is the last screw. Now, that is a good sturdy lock set. Key and knob, now locks and also the deadbolt, locking. Let us try it.
(Demonstration)
Now, that is, that is security.
