Now city living usually leads to a lack of privacy and especially with neighbors. So we took this completely open window and turned it into a piece of artwork for this screen and the best part about this project is it took us less than half a day and 50 bucks.
Now when it comes to window coverings, most of people think curtains or blinds. But really don't think outside the box. So what we're going to do is create a window covering with horizontal and vertical lines. But you know what, you could do any design you want. It really just comes down to your home and what's going to fit in.
And we're going to build it out this half inch birch plywood. We're going to use a router to route out channels to create light wells, so the sun can come through but the neighbors won't see in.
First, I'm going to knock together the frame that the plywood will attach to making sure that it fits exactly into the window hole, before I cut out my plywood, because we only have one piece and it's better to be safe than to be sorry.
So what I'm going to do is lay out where I want to cut all the router trenches, so I'm going to do it in a pencil line making sure the design is really cool. Then I'm going to come along with the trenching bit. Now the trenching bit is the router bit that cuts a straight line straight through the material. The next step is getting a plunge and cutting them out. This thing is going to look awesome.
Now we are ready for this stain. So first of all, I dust it down making sure there is no dust anyway, because that gives you a rough finish. You can make the screen blend cohesively into your room by painting the wood either the same color as your trim or your walls. We are opting to stain it in an opposing color to give it a funkier twist.
Oh! Look at that. Look at that. Now that is Satisfaction with the capital S. It's a lovely piece of artwork and you've got privacy from the neighbors next door, not to mention this little bad boy less than 50 bucks, one of my cheapest project so far and it took me a half a day. Even though I got off to late start, we still got it done.
