How to Install a Rear Brake Hose

Now we are going to tie down the Hose, and as you can see with the rear break there is a lot of options usually on Hose routing. You could route this over the top tube, and down the seat stay, or you could route it along the chain stay, and underneath the down tube. On a hard tail, usually, it's simplest to route it over the top, and straight down the seat stay. On a full suspension bike if you do that you always have some sort of lube somewhere in order to allow the movement of the suspension. In my case I prefer with this suspension design to run the hose underneath the down tube, and along the chain stay. And then you can tie it down with zip ties, cable ties.

Now in this case, looks like my hose routing is actually pretty nice. You need be able to turn the wheel, if you are using cable ties; you want to tie them down tightly. Here is another way you can tie down a hose on a bike that doesn't have hose guide, and say we are going to run this hose up to seat stay. You could stick this on, and then you should have to hose in. lots of bikes have cable guides like this for, meant for cables. This bike has mounts for a cantilever brake as well. So you can use those same stops, or you can use a cable tie down like this. So once this is tied, then you can snap the hose into it, and hold the hose down neatly.

Another way to tie down the hose is, that you can go to any hardware store; you can get these cable clamps. I can clamp using the water bottle boxes that are under the down tube, and I actually run these upside down, so it kind of clamps the cable tighter against the frame. It's not really the way the cable ties, it's meant to go in on a hose. All you're trying to do is, just get it out of the way, and get it tied down, and it doesn't have to be anything very solid. I put a little blob of welding material here, so I am going to drill into that. In this case I am going to use a 1/8 th inch drill bit, and some self tapping screws, grease on these screws.
