Now, well once it had plain walls and was visually uninviting, isn't that now a stunning place to sit and dine? And in less than half a day and full way less than $100, we've really changed this space. Sit down, you are going to enjoy this. Now as far as design goes, we are working with a blank canvas. We could install the molding vertically that go from the ceiling to the floor. What I would do though is elongate the space, which is what we don't need to do because of the existing furniture, it's very tall already. So we are going to wrap some molding in here horizontally, creating a nice deep inviting area.
Now design is not always about making bold statements, we are painting our molding, a very light color. This is not going to be a great deal of transition between the wall color and the molding. But what it will do is create lighten shade in that area, it's going to give you definition, you are going to want to sit there and eat whole day, well, most of the day anyway. To avoid having a cluttered and busy look, make sure you leave at least ten inches between each piece of molding. It's just the right amount for an eight foot ceiling.
Instead of wrapping the molding right around and bringing it right up to the edge, we are actually going to step it back three quarters of an inch, giving off an extra detail with no extra work. Work smarter, not harder. That's for you granddad. We take the wall length minus the three quarter inch return, and make our cuts. We don't want to put too many nails in, because of such a small piece of material, we are just going to put enough in there to hold it in place until the glue dries. It did sit amazing, a little bit of molding, a miter box, some glue.
This is a big change. Do it to your house, you'll like it. Now design is all about beautiful lines. Now I am coming back along, I am filling it all with the putty. It's pretty consistent with the color of the paint. Once that done, I am going to get the paint and come along and repaint the very top edge, this will give the job a very professional finish. Now, this was a dead set easy project, and I think it was so lot on the wallet, even my old man is sitting at home grinning right now, because this baby cost nothing, less than a $100 and half a day of my time, and I think this space is just beautiful.
