How to Install a Windows 7 Theme
Welcome to PCWizKid's Tech Talk. Today, I'm going to talk about Windows Themes.
Today, I'm going to talk about Windows Themes because I've been getting a lot of question on installing it. I know it's basic for some, but basically when you are bored of the personalization options here and the built-in themes and you’ve gone to Microsoft—into ones that were there and you want some custom ones from somewhere else, well there are websites that you can go and download things safely and then install them into the WINDOWS\Resources\Themes. So remember that, because that’s what currently all the default themes are. And you wanted to just add more into that folder.
Basically, divine-art.com is one place that I go to download these themes for Windows Vista or Windows 7, it doesn’t really matter. And when you download them, they basically zipped up their package with a whole bunch of files and you have to extract those files and then put them into that folder that I mentioned for it to appear here. So, here is a Windows red theme that I just installed. And how do you do that? Well, you download the theme from the website, extract it, you get a whole bunch of files in that zip file. Then of course there is going to be different things but either it’s a screensaver there could be gadgets, there could be wallpaper, all kinds of things but the main thing that you’re concerned about from that package is not necessarily the gadgets nor that other stuff, but the theme files, these two files here. So, you want to copy those two files that you extracted, the theme files and paste them in here and that C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes folder.
So, once you’ve pasted it in there and then go back into the personalized option to change your theme, it will appear there. You will now see it when you go down and scroll down you’ll find it and you can click on it. It makes everything red and then of course there is additional things that will improve the look of your red theme such as the gadgets so you can go back then to that area where you extracted all those files that you’ve downloaded and choose one of the gadgets for example. So for example the clock and the calendar that this theme pack comes with are red. So, to install them, you just double click on them and it installs it for you so you just—here is the calendar, double click on it, click on Install, do the same thing with the clock and there you go. Two red things, two gadgets there to match your theme.
That’s how you install a theme. Very easy, straightforward. All you need to know is where to go to download these things, where to put the files so that they appear and then of course then you can save them and have them there always and use them whatever you want.
