Chris Duke: I am Chris Duke and this is Motorz. Over a decade ago, man by the name of Horst Leitner drew a concept of a new product for pickup trucks on the back of a paper napkin. His invention was a result of loosing too much gear out of bed of his pickup trucks where hanging his motorcycle and invention later became the Bed X-Tender, which has been sold over two and a half million times for OE's and aftermarket retailers; Has become as common in aftermarket accessories bed cover. Today on Motorz, I'm going to show you how to install one of these on the 2007 GMC pick-up truck.
Now let's take a look at everything that comes in a box of course we have got the tubes here, these uprights, the straps these end-caps for the tubes and universal mounting bracket, now Amp research supplied us this quick latch, which is going to allow us to take the Bed X-Tender off at any angle in order to mount these we have used the template also provided by Amp Research. For this installation, you are going to need a rubber mallet, a Phillips screwdriver, Torx T-20 bit, a center punch, a tape measure, the hammer, a power drill then a nice 64 drill bit. Take the template that you just cut out, to depillar the bed of your truck and then use a center punch to mark your holes.
Using a nice 64s drill bit drill to the sheet metal. Attach these quick latches to the truck using the supplied Phillips head screws. Slide the three bent tubes into the pivot upright with the drill tube in the center, it secured with the provided screw, slide this strap latch over the outside tube with this plastic insert that's on here facing up and then attach this bumper upright of three tubes. Then place the center upright over the ends of the tubes, insert three of the large wedges into the bumper upright and tighten loosely with the Torx T-20 bit.
Extend the tubes to the pivoting upright about three ends of an inch and loosely secure with these large wedges as well. Add on the strap latch retainer and bring on the three end caps. Now slide these three center tubes into the open ends, now connect the two-halves making sure there is a minimum of a three inch overlap here into the bent tubes. Now I have got the three pieces put together, need to take it over to the truck to check the width. Looks like it's a little bit too wide there, using a rubber mallet straight in the center upright and using a double wedge and of through hole wedge screw the centre upright into the wider screw.
Adjust these bumper uprights here, they sit on a flat surface of the tailgate as well as inside the truck on the bed with it's inside the truck. Now to secure the Bed X-Tender, when its on the tailgate just take the strap and push it right into the latch and when you want to back in the inside the truck just pull tailgate handle will pop out, swing it back into the bed of the truck to close-up your tailgate.
