Hi, I am Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I am going to show you a simple and easy way to save heating bills. Electrical outlets located in exterior walls or switches on exterior walls are frequent culprits for cold air infiltration. If you run your hand over the surface on a cold day, you can feel cool breezes sometimes coming in through the outlet or switches. This is caused by poor insulation behind the outlet itself when the home was constructed. Fortunately, there is a solution on the market today that can prevent that cold air infiltration and I am going to show you what it is.
This simple foam insulation outlet covers and switch covers literally sit behind the faceplate of the outlet and seal out the cold air from coming into the outlet or switch play. I am going to show you how to install this. It is very simple to do.
First, turn power off at the circuit breaker box for the outlet that you are going to be working on. Next, use a circuit tester to make sure that power is indeed off at the outlet or switch. Next, remove the faceplate cover from the outlet. Put the outlet sealer over the surface of the outlet and re-install the cover plate. And finally, return power to the circuit breaker. And likewise, you can do the same for switches. Oh yes, much, much better now. So save yourself some money in your home heating bills by installing switch sealers.
