Female: Winter maybe upon us but it is not too late to winterize your home. National Do-it-Yourself Expert Linda Lyday; has some tips on preparing your home for the cold weather.
Lynda: First of all you need to go up in your attic and check out the pink stuff that you will see there well that is called insulation.
Female: There are an estimated 60 million American homes with under insulated attics. By adding insulation to a home, owners can help reduce their energy bills and prevent the release of up to ½ ton of greenhouse gas emissions for attic per year. Lyday explains how.
Linda: If you have insulation in between your ceiling joist like this but, if you actually see the wooden ceiling joist, you do not have enough insulation. You need to make sure that the insulation is going across the ceiling joist as well. You will need to have at least, 15 ½ inches of rolled out insulation. Now if you have blown in insulation, you will need up to 18 inches thick.
